ERIC McNUTT Obituary

ERIC CHARLES McNUTT 1931 - 2014 Eric peacefully passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at The Dorothy Ley Hospice. Survived by his sons Roger and Daniel (wife Monique) and sister Joan Alvarez, brothers Kenneth and Donald, former wife Marion Cooley and many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S. Eric was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, one of 10 children, to Janie and Charles McNutt. He was predeceased by his brother Lorne and sisters Ella Mullan, Marie Jensen, Evelyn Brent, Gail Ross and Phyllis Hingley. At an early age, Eric was a merchant seaman and travelled the world. In the early fifties he joined the Ironworkers Local 721 in Toronto where he worked on many new projects in Ontario. Eric was also involved with harness horse racing as a driver, trainer and owner. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Trillium Health Centre Mississauga and The Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Dorothy Ley Hospice. When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free...

Just heard that Eric passed away. I met Eric at the Woodbridge Fairgrounds in 1969. Eric helped me get my trainer and driving licenses and drove horses for me and my friend Daryl Dickieson until I got my licence. Eric was a good friend and was well respected by his peers even on the jockey club circuit. Please accept my condolences.

Eric was a beloved family man who will be missed by the many who knew him.
Dan and Monique..the weeks you spent with him prior to his passing is time to be treasured. Your close father-son bond is such a great example to all.
Words are a small comfort at this time, but it may help to know you have our warm wishes and sympathy.

Sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Eric many times over the years of our friendship but the surprise visit to our little piece of heaven (Canoe Cove) will always stand out as the best one. Hope he is at "Heavens Racetrack" with Mary and Everett!

Dear Dan and Monique,
Beautiful Obituary. Eric lived his life exactly as he wanted. A man to be admired. He was extremely blessed to have had caring and loving children by his side during his difficult days. Our prayers are with you and trusting that God will bring you comfort. No matter how old we are losing a parent is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know, but his courage and wisdom will live on like a legacy of love that will always be with you.
With heartfelt sympathy, The Gallagher Family.
