Margaret BREMNER Obituary

BREMNER, Margaret "Magee" (Wallace) - Far too young but with great courage, Margaret died at home on November 17, 2012 with her loving husband Ken and children Emily and Cole beside her. She is the cherished daughter of Tim and the late Liane Wallace. Magee will be terribly missed by her sisters Heather, Valerie and Wendy and her brother Bruce. She is a daughter- in-law of the late Ray Bremner and Jean Bremner, who shared much happiness with her. Margaret leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters- in-law, cousins, uncles and aunts and Cecelia. Her spirit and strength touched many friends in Montreal and Toronto, especially at the Glendon Athletic Club. We will gather to celebrate Margaret's life on Friday, November 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Toronto Hunt, 1355 Kingston Road, just east of Victoria Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be made to the charity of your choice. A funeral and burial will follow on Sunday, November 25th, 1:30 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church in Hudson, Quebec, 642 Main Road, a peaceful and pretty place, like the beauty in her.

My deepest condolences to Margaret's family and friends. She was a joy to be around, always, an amazing role model and mother for her children, and a genuine inspiration, during her illness and otherwise. I'm lucky to have known her; to say she will be missed is an obvious understatement.

My sympathies go out to all of McGee's family members. McGee and her siblings were the first people I met (through my brother Ron), when we moved to Montreal West when I was 8 years old. What a happy, positive, funny and easy-going gal she was - even years later when she was my boss at Montreal West Day Camp! There was nothing we could do that would cause that girl to lose her cool - she just took it all in stride. I am so saddened to hear of her passing.

I haven't seen Magee since high school but I will always think of her as a sweet, ready for a giggle, kinda gal. I remember going to her house (when we were at EB) and the triplets were running around. Magee was never jealous of the massive intrusion into her home and instead, helped her mom. She had a lot of patience! I never had the pleasure of seeing her as a woman, a mom, but I'm sure her family was very lucky to have her at the helm. My thoughts are with you.

I have many fond memories do spending time at the Wallace house on Strathern ave with Magee and Wendy Gelhay. There was always such a great spirit. I remember Magee as an incredibly intelligent and athletic girl. We spent a lot of time at Montreal west tennis club and she clearly excelled at the game. I also have fond memories of our times at Concordia. I was shocked and saddened to hear the news and express my heartfelt condolences to the family. Sharon Vien, Ottawa

Our hearts go out to the Bremner and Wallace family for their tragic loss.

I have a vivid memory of Ray Bremner calling out, "Brevity is Bliss", as the speeches were being made at Ken and Margaret's wedding. As such, I will keep my message short. Ken - if we can ever be of assistance, don't hesitate to ask. The courage you displayed in both of Margaret's battles is truly admirable.

One of my earliest memories is of leaping with Magee butt-first into a giant snowdrift on the Pigott's front lawn, yelling "Happy Anniversary" at the top of our lungs. It was dark, but still not yet dinner time, so it must have been this time of year. We were three years old. Magee became a beautiful, generous, loving and absolutely full-of-life woman, wife, mother, colleague and friend to so many, but she never, ever lost that crazy, impulsive little girl. My heartfelt condolences to her family in this tragic loss. I count myself lucky to have known her.

Dearest Ken, Emily, Cole, Mr. Wallace, Bruce, Valery, Wendy, Heather and the Bremner Family

My heartfelt sympathy are with you all at this time. Although I have known Magee since our family moved into Montreal west in 1973, living on the same block, initially playing champ on Strathearn Avenue. Our tighter friendship and closeness blossomed during university years, followed by our early, fun filled years of living in Toronto in the 80's, as we began Life in Toronto and she commenced her career at Glendon. Magee's warmth, wonderful laughter, love of life and connection with people, made her one of the most authentic and genuine beings, I have ever know! Her effortless ability to find fun and humour, in just about anything, was only one of her many amazing gifts. She has been taken from this earth plane far too soon, for our liking. Her impact on my life along with the precious memories of wonderful times shared, will never depart.

I am blessed to have had such a beautiful and kind friend in my life! Magee will forever shine with beauty and brilliance. I will never forget that gorgeous sparkle in her eye!

Love, Janet Hawker

Our deepest sympathies for your loss. Margaret's smile filled a room. While my contact with her was mostly through our girls in grade school, across the chocolate fountain at birthday parties or play date pick ups, she was always so warm and kind to everyone. May your cherished memories, the support of your family and friends help you through this difficult time. She will always be with you.

It was in the 60's when I saw this girl come up to home plate while her team yelled "Slugger Magee!" I remember thinking "Who is this person?". I went home and asked my Dad if there was a baseball player named Slugger Magee, and he said no. I thought, " Wow. That must be her name!" Well, luckily I have been able to call that girl with the funny name a close friend all these years. Quite simply, I miss her, I loved her, and I'll never forget her.

Ken, Emily, Cole (and Fanny) and Family

Words cannot express my feelings at this time. Margaret was an amazing woman. Someone I worked closely with over the last 21 years at the GAC. She was my mentor and my friend. Her guidance and wisdom is something that I will cherish for years to come. It was an honour working with your mom. The scrapbooking days and the love of chocolate were just a couple of things that we shared. “Scarlie, do you have any chocolate in your desk” was a weekly phrase I came to know and love. The schwarma lunches were a favourite of Margaret's and something we all looked forward to as well, and they definitely will not be the same with her gone. I cherished her knowledge; her advice; but mostly her friendship. It was a gift to know her.
