Marjorie BARKER Obituary

BARKER, Marjorie Mary (nee MCGrath) - At the age of 91 years, Marjorie passed away peacefully and contentedly on October 30, 2012, in Markham, ON. Marjorie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Allan Herbert, her brother Bernard and sisters Evelyn, Mary, Teresa and Madelyn. Marjorie, a loving Mom and Grama, is survived by her children, Anne Louise (Wayne), Paul (Mary), Susan (John) and Brian (Michelle), grandchildren Jennifer, Lindsay, Danielle, Sean (Vanessa), Ryan (Brooke), Greg, Daniel, John Allan, Kevin, Megan (Jeff), Michael, Katelyn, Brianne, sisters Noreen and Sheila, brother Joseph and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie especially enjoyed her grandchildren as they brought great joy and love to her. Marjorie was born in Marlbank, ON to Bernard and Marguerite MCGrath (nee Hopkins) on August 10, 1921. Marjorie went to high school in Erinsville, ON and Notre Dame in Kingston, ON. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1943, from Hotel Dieu in Kingston, ON. Marjorie worked as a nurse in the Kingston Department of Veterans Affairs for two years and then moved to Toronto where she continued her nursing career at Sunnybrook DVA Hospital. Marjorie met her husband Allan at Sunnybrook when he was recuperating from his time in WWII. Marjorie was involved in the Catholic Women's League and the Fatima Church bazaars bake booths. Marjorie enjoyed bridge, baking and cooking. Lemon meringue pies were her specialty. Visitation will be held at PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. (between Pharmacy and Warden) on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 3176 St. Clair Ave. E., Scarborough, ON on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Hills Cemetery. Condolences may be left at the online guestbook at www.pauloconnor.ca The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the team at Amica Swan Lake, especially Kieran, Lesley, Beth, Rehel and Anne Marie; All-Care Health and Staffing Services, especially Maryam, Atefeh and Cherrybell; and Paul O'Connor Funeral Home.
