RONALD PEIRCE Obituary

RONALD CHARLES PEIRCE July 15, 1935 – November 18, 2017 (Col. R.C. Peirce, CD Retired) Passed away November 18, 2017 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Jackie Walsh for 33 years. Survived by his daughters Cammie (Ardis) and Elizabeth, his sons Ted, Michael and Geoff, his brother Jim (Maureen), sister Beverley (Elwood), his grandchildren Kristyn (James), Nicole, Chad, Dayna, Benjamin, Claire and Emily and great-grandchild Elliott. Ron was born in London, Ontario, to Charles Edward Peirce and his wife Norma Elizabeth (nee Switzer) but spent most of his adult life in the Toronto area. His first civilian position after graduating with an Honours BA in Business Administration/University of Western Ontario was with CIBC in 1961. He then began a very successful career with IBM in 1964. He held various management positions with IBM retiring at the age of 65. Oasis Technologies then scooped him up because of his expertise in contract writing and negotiations and he worked until he was 70. Ron's main love was flying and he found a way to pursue this passion as a reservist with the RCAF/CAF. He served a total of 32 years leaving as a full Colonel and the Commander 2 Tactical Aviation Wing, Toronto/Downsview. He flew the Harvard, T33 Silver Star, F86 Sabre V, Beech 18, DC3 Dakota, Otter and Kiowa (helicopter). He also owned his own private airplane for 30 years (a Mooney M20F, M20J and M20R/Ovation). Ron will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 22nd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St. (south of Steeles Ave., Toronto). A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, November 23rd at 11 a.m. If desired, donations can be made to VETS Canada (vetscanada.org).

So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was a great help to me when I first joined IBM's legal/contracting team and his professional and pragmatic approach to the business challenges we all faced provided invaluable guidance to me.

My condolences, on Ron's passing , to his family and many friends. I had the privilege to often fly with Ron as a Flight Tech' Crewman each time knowing that the mission would be completed successfully and have a safe return to base. Sometimes less than favourable weather and/or difficult obstacles to overcome did not deter Ron. Per Ardua Ad Astra Ray La Marche (Omemee ON)

It is with a sad heart that I offer my condolences to Ron's family and friends upon his passing. The 70s and 80s were great times in 400sqn and Ron had a great hand in making those times so memorable.
For example, the Garrison Ball, CIAS, Winter Exercises, Churchill, Black Velvet, just to name a few.. As his Exec Officer, I enjoyed his leadership style, his friendly nature and his enthusiasm for the betterment of the Sqn. I thank him for all he did for me personally and hope that he will allow me the privilege of being his wingman again, someday..
Per Ardua Ad Astra.

Sending our deepest sympathy to everyone at this sad time.
I remember our " girls'" Christmases...Ron would come out of the den to join us for all the sweets, and then we would rope him into taking endless pictures of us.....he was so patient! What a nice guy, he will be missed by all. Love, Eve, Lee and Shannon, Jesse and Sarah Lilleorg

Even though I hadn't seen Ron in a long time, I've always remembered him fondly as one of my favourite people during my tenure with 400 SQN. He always had a mischievous glint in his eyes, and I had the feeling that the wheels were always turning behind them. I believe he was the mastermind behind the infamous chickens and firecrackers Mess dinner. It was before my time, but I've retold the story hundreds of times. A kind disposition and an easy sense of humour are special gifts, and Ron had these in spades. Since I'm in the sunbelt for the winter I won't be able to pay my respects in person, but I am thinking of him and I extend my condolences to his family.

Colonel (Ret'd) Ron Peirce will be remembered for his contribution to 400 Squadron and its considerable history. As 27th Commanding Officer of 400 Squadron from 1975-1978, his stellar leadership was instrumental in 400 Squadron's service to Canada in the Search and Rescue role. Ron, thank you for your dedicated service to 400 Squadron, the RCAF, and Canada. Lieutenant-Colonel Jill Bishop, Commanding Officer 400 Squadron
