STEFAN YAKUBIW Obituary

STEFAN YAKUBIW It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stefan Yakubiw, our beloved father, grandfather (dido) and friend. He is predeceased by his wife Frances Yakubiw (Liakopolous) and his eight siblings. He leaves his children Marijka Stadnyk (Roman), George (Nadia) and Bill. Grandfather to Alexandra (Nicholas Finnigan), Nick, Stefany, Zack, Matthew, Ivanka, Nicholas and Zoe. Stefan was born in Dobromyl, Ukraine on February 15, 1925. At the age of 14 he was sent to Germany as a slave labourer during World War II, and along with thousands of others became a displaced person when the war ended. In 1951 he immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. Both a patriot of Ukraine and his adopted homeland, he continued to support cultural and educational initiatives in both countries until his death. Stefan was the benefactor of the new Catholic Church in Dobromyl. His generosity, kindness, and compassion will be missed by all. The visitation will take place at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette Street, on Friday, December 7th from 6 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, December 8th at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Eucharist Church, 515 Broadview Avenue. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Holodomor Education Fund or the Ukrainian Youth Association Weselka Kitchen Renewal Fund.

Dear Marijka, George and Bill,
I just heard of your fathers passing and was really saddened. He was a very nice man, and really was a comfort talking to after my tato passed away years ago. Funny... We'd meet often while grocery shopping in the area and somehow we would laugh and cry together in the vegetables area. I am thinking of you all at this difficult time and will miss your tato too.
