Derrick Anweiler Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Sep. 10 to Sep. 11, 2013.

Derrick Anweiler
September 25, 1992 - September 8, 2013
It is with great sadness that the family of Derrick announces his passing on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 in Saskatoon at the age of 20 years. Derrick is survived by his heartbroken Mom and Dad, Robin and Cindy Anweiler; his big Brother, Brett Anweiler; his cherished Grandparents, David and Marilyn Klinger; his doting Uncle and Aunt, Brian and Sue Klinger; his special Auntie and Cousin, Sheila and Tyson Anweiler; other special relatives are Grandma Lani Roberts, Grandpa Richard Anweiler; Uncles Les Anweiler and Colin Anweiler and dear Great Grandma Emma Anweiler, and many other aunts, uncles and too many friends to name. Derrick was born September 25th, 1992 on his Mom's birthday. He was raised in Saskatoon, attending John Lake School and Walter Murray Collegiate. At the time of his passing Derrick was employed with TEK Concrete Ltd. He loved his job and everyone he worked with, looking forward to seeing the guys every day. Derrick loved being with his friends. He loved to snowboard, mechanics, drawing, playing guitar, golfing, fishing with his Grandma and Grandpa, long boarding and cruising around. Derrick was a "social butterfly". He was generous, always there for anyone in need. A comedian and always had a smile and always made others smile. He was a best friend to many. Derrick's motto was "Live Life Large". He was a hard worker. A Celebration of Derrick's Life will be held on Friday, September 13th, 2013 in the Chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Avenue N) at 1:00 p.m. There will be a reception at the Edwards Family Centre following the interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Email condolences can be sent to [email protected] Arrangements are entrusted to the Saskatoon Funeral Home. 244-5577.

It's hard to believe that a year has gone by without you. It feels only a short time has passed.

The year has been difficult for us and others. Twenty years is so young, but it is twenty years that we will treasure. At least we have that, and it really is a good thing.

It doesn't seem that long ago when you were born - a cute, and happy baby. And only a few years ago that we enjoyed letting you loose on your birthdays at a toy store to pick out your present. As a kid, you were engaged and adventurous. As an adult, you were attentive, hard-working, fun-loving, and caring.

You accomplished so much in the short time you had. Building bikes, building a motorbike, your art and making time for friends and family. We were looking forward to seeing you live out your life and your accomplishments. We knew you were going to make it big - and proud to be on the sidelines.

The tragedy is that we won't continue to see you grow and the gains that you would make. We will miss the swell of pride, although it's made a place in our hearts and an emptiness remains.

We're sorry that you won't be able to share the experiences that should have been yours. We think of you when we do enjoy our days, wishing you were here and sharing it with us.

It's been said that we become a collection of scars and losing you has created a deep wound.

We are always thinking of you and missing you.

Dear Derrick,

It has been six months since you were tragically taken from us.
Our lives changed forever, never to be the same.
We are still heartbroken and we still cry alot,
Often yelling "WHY" and screaming your name.

If only we could turn the clock back,
To have you back home, walking through the door.
To see your smile, to hear your laugh,
To feel your hugs again once more.

You had a personality "larger than life",
With the most positive attitude and generous heart.
You had so much wisdom you shared with everyone.
It is so unfair to lose you....to be kept apart.

You had a personality that drew people towards you,
A gift that many of us can only hope for.
You gave all of us so many great memories.
Your friends and family wish we could have made more.

You were not just a cherished part of our family.
You were truly the best friend we could have ever had.
How do we get through this roller coaster ride, without your guidance and wisdom.....this is all so sad.

We love you so much and are so proud of you.
You are the best son/brother we could have wished for.
As we continue to figure out how to do life without you,
We still wish that you could just walk through the door.

Love you lots,
Mom, Dad & Brett

Dear Derrick

The moment that you died 6 months ago
Our hearts were torn in two
One side filled with heartache
The other died with you.

We often lie awake at night
When the world is fast asleep, and
take a walk down memory lane
with tears upon our cheeks.

Remembering you is easy
We do it every day,
But missing you is a heartache
That never goes away.

We hold you tight within our hearts
and there you will remain
Until the joyous day arrives
That we will meet again.

Grandpa and Grandma at the farm.

A LIGHT HAS LEFT MY LIFE

Do the moon and stars struggle to hold back the black of night?

Do the vivid colors of the rainbow pale against the fading blue of the sky?

Is birdsong only a muffled annoyance to the ear and does the sun fail to give it's full light and warmth to the day?

Does time pause to take a breath in it's relentless march into the future - a future that feels the loss of a happy, loving and funny spirit? A spirit whose essence no longer brings laughter and joy into our lives - only memories of what was and what might have been.

This is my world now; a world dulled by the absence of one who loved and was loved - one who enriched and blessed my life because he was and still is a part of it - my dear sweet grandson, Derrick. God bless and keep you in His eternal care. Grandma Lani

Dear Cindy and family, Dave and Marilyn; We just heard the news of your very sad loss and want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. It is so very hard to find the right words or know the "why" when something so tragic happens. Hold on to each other to get through this very difficult time.

I wrote your name in sky, however the wind blew it away.
I wrote your name in the sand, however the water washed it away.
I wrote your name in my heart and forever it will stay.

Dear Cindy, Robin, Brett, Marilyn, Dave and extended family,

My heart hurts for your deep loss. From all the stories I've heard and read over these past few days, it's quite obvious what a great friend and amazing person Derrick was! He has definitely left his handprint on the hearts of all that knew him.

In the words of Robert Munsch:
"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living,
My baby you'll be"

You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and my deepest sympathies go out to you all.

Your friend forever
