To the parents of Kenny - my son died the same way last Thanksgiving and I wanted you to know how incredibly sad I am for you all. Suicide is a very difficult thing to deal with and when I read about your son, he reminds me of my son. Those hopes and dreams and plans from the time he was a little boy. I have spent the past 10 months in a dream (and not a good one) trying to understand. Starting to realize we will never understand. It's just so final and sad. My entire heart goes out to you all, to his family, friends and team mates. Stay strong and know you are all loved

Bishop Walter Dixon of Atlanta, GA Official Press Release
Re: May God Be With Our Beloved Brother In Christ, Kenney McKinley Wide Receiver Death of the Denver Broncos and Family.
Merciful Lord, who art the strength of sufferers and the comfort of those who are heavy of heart: incline thine ear, we beseech thee, to the prayers of all who cry unto thee in their troubles; succor the distressed, uphold the fainting, relieve the suffering, console the sad, and make thy face to shine upon the family of Brother Kenney McKinley.
O lord, thou lover of souls whose wisdom is beyond our understanding, surround the family of brother Kenney McKinley with your love, that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the day to come. May our Lord Jesus Christ be near the family to defend them, within us to refresh us around us to preserve us, before us to guide us, behind us to justify us, above us to bless us. Who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost. His soul is bound up in ours forever.
We see him now with the eyes of memory, hi faults forgiven, and his virtues grown larger. So does goodness live and weakness fade from sight. We remember him with gratitude and bless his name. His memory is a blessing for ever. And we remember as well the fallen one who but yesterday was part of our community. To all who cared for him and labored for all people we pay tribute.
May we prove worthy of carrying on the tradition of our faith for the task is now his family. His soul is bound up in all of ours forever. We give you thanks that he now live and reign with you. As a great crowd of witnesses, he surround us with his blessings, and offer your hums of praise and thanksgiving.
That he are alive for ever more in your kingdom. Let us remember and thank God whom we worship for making us your children by grace and for sustaining us with the bread of life: We thank you, Lord. For your presence wherever we have gathered: We thank you, Lord. For the pardon of our sins, especially when Christians have martyred Christians, who restores us to the fellowship of your faithful people, the saints:
We thank you Lord for the faith of all who have gone before us, thru their encouragement to their families: Father with this I spread my hand to thee asking you through your son Jesus Christ to comfort all souls and help mend all hearts that are in mourning of this great loss. Lord our Brother Kenney like so many ahead of him is gone to soon.
We thank you Lord.

To the McKinley family, my heart is so full of sadness at the passing of Kenny. This past week I have felt as if I had lost a family member and in truth I have, we all have, the entire Gamecock Nation. Kenny was more than a football player, he was what every father wants his son to grow up to be. A person who puts others first as Kenny did. I hope this sums up what Kenny meant to us, "All gave some, one gave ALL...we missed you when left, we will miss you more that you're gone...NEVER FORGOTTEN."

My deepest condolenses to the McKinley family. Once a Gamecock, always a Gamecock. He will be missed.

To the McKinley Family,

During football season, the Gamecock Team stays at the Radisson Hotel when there is a home game. As an employee of the hotel, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with your son for four years. He stayed to himself, he was quiet, and always had a smile on his face. It was indeed a pleasure working with him. May GOD continue to richly bless you in the days ahead and the years to come.

September 22, 2010
McKinley Family,

When death reaches into a person’s family and snatches away our loved one, the shock of loss can be the severest emotional blow of our lives. Grief is so difficult to endure we have suffered sleepless nights, empty days and a feeling of not knowing how to go on. God sees it all, our tears pain of heart and a broken, crushed spirit. For He (Jehovah) is near to those that are broken at heart;
And those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
He is healing the brokenhearted ones,
And is binding up their painful spots.
May the power beyond what is normal be God’s and not that out of ourselves. To help you all go from one day to next.

September 21, 2010
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mr. & Mrs. McKinley and Kimberly and Kayla-I am so sorry for your loss. It’s seems like only a few years ago that I taught Kenny music at Sanders elementary school and would go play hoops with him and some of his 5th grade buddies. When I think of Kenny and the first thing that comes to mind was his infectious smile. It was such a joy to follow his success in football from South Cobb to USC to the pros. My heart is breaking for your family over this. Please know that I am praying that somehow God will give you a peace and some answers through all of this. Let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. My deepest regards.
Mr. C

Another fallen Eagle.. R.i.P. #11 Kenny McKinley. You will be forever missed! Your SCHS family loves && misses you!
September 21, 2010
This candle is lit for the way you shined so brightly in the eyes of those close to you, and those who looked up to and thought highly of you. Those who watched you from near and far. To everyone you came in contact with, you touched their life in some special way….for we all (especially South Carolinians) are truly blessed and thankful. Every question can't and won't be answered because only you and God know. But one thing we all know is that you were a wonderful person, with a big heart, big smile, and you had a great love of people. They say first impressions are lasting impressions....you are a true example of great first impressions. You were and will always be truly loved...and greatly missed. To your son, your dad was a great person with a big heart who had a love for just playing ball. Your dad was talented without question and always remember, he will be watching over you. To the parents, we know its hard to see your child leave this world before you...keep the faith and know that everything will be alright after while for there are many prayers being lifted up for you and your strength. God Bless You.

Rest in Peace Kenny...forever and always a Gamecock...the one and ONLY #11

The Soft Goodbye

when the light begins to fade
and shadows fall across the sea,
one bright star in the evening sky.
your love's light leads me on my way.

there's a dream that will not sleep,
a burning hope that will not die.
so I must go now with the wind,
and leave you waiting on the tide.

time to fly, time to touch the sky.
one voice alone, a haunting cry.
one song, one star burning bright,
may it carry me through darkest night.

rain comes over the gray hills,
and on the air, a soft goodbye.
hear the song that I sing to you
when the time has come to fly.

when I leave and take the wind
and find the land that faith will bring,
the brightest star in the evening sky
is yours to find for me.

September 21, 2010
When Kenny was being recruited, I worked with his Aunt Cheryl at SunTrust Bank. As I learned more about what a great young man he was, I certainly hoped he would become a Gamecock. Little did I know what an impact he would have on and off the field in Columbia. I saw him at the recent game against UGA and was glad he had made it to cheer on his Gamecocks. I never met him but feel like I have lost a friend. To all of his family and friends, know that we have all of you in our prayers during this difficult time.
September 21, 2010
That Kenny McKinley smile will be remembered by Gamecock Nation forever. May God lend his hand to the McKinley family and all of Kenny's friends to guide all of you through this difficult time.

RIP Kenny. You were one of the best players ever to put on that Gamecock uniform. You will be missed.
September 21, 2010
I never met him, but I am trying so hard not to break down and cry. As a die hard, African American Gamecock fan who loves to see my brothers do well, it is so hard to see a young man that I watched play in person, a young man who you were so happy to see advance and have a career like he did and do so well, it is so hard to deal with his loss. We will never completely know why what happened did, but I do pray for your family, your son, your former teammates and classmates. It's a sad, sad day here in Columbia. I ask that the team take Kenny's memory with them for the rest of the season, dedicate it to him, and work 110% for him each week like he did. Remember his energy, smile, and passion for the game, and use it. God bless.
September 21, 2010

I met Kenny when I substitute taught in Cobb County,Georgia at South Cobb HS. I hung out with the football team in the weight room and we talked quite a bit. Everytime I subbed there, we would greet each and talked of his grades and the potential to make it big. Although I left Georgia, I continue to follow Kenny! I was so hurt to hear of the passing of Kenny. May God Bless his family at this time and may this young man rest in Peace!
September 21, 2010
Kenny, you will be remembered by Gamecock fans for not only what you did on the field, but how special of a person you were off the field. You will be missed by many and my prayers go to you and your family. RIP KM

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O LORD Almighty!

2 My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.

5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

7 They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.

10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;

Psalm 84:1-7; 10

You were the Gamecock football player that left an impression with me...You didn't care I was just about the last person in line for a picture & autograph at the Ladies football Clinic a few years back...I said to you, "thanks for sticking around so long to sign my T-shirt as many players packed it up and already left". And you said..."Thank me"?? "No, thank you for wanting to stay so long to get it"! YOU WILL BE MISSED! R.I.P

When we walk away from someone or hang up the phone, we never know if that might be the last time we speak to or see that person. But yet we always the it for granted that we'll see them later. I will always remember hearing and seeing Kenny introduced during the UGa game. His big wave and smile from the sidelines. He always made us proud that he chose to be one of us, a member of Gamecock Nation. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family. I remember seeing them at games and how happy and proud they were of their only son. I am sure that they are searching for answers and questioning why they didn't see this coming but there is usually no way to see it. We may never know what causes someone, anyone to do such a thing but this family can rest in the fact that during the 23 short years of his life, Kenny honored his family. The memory of him, in my mind, will always be an honor to his Mother and Father as they raised a wonderful son and human being. You will be missed Kenny and Gamecock nation will never forget you or your family. May God Bless you all.
