Darlene and I were quite close in high school. She was radiant, smart, generous and kind.

I'm happy we spoke just a couple of months ago thanks to a Facebook connection. Although I left Scranton over 20 years ago and have changed considerably we were able to pick up where we left. She was compassionate and kind. Did I mention she was smart, also? That is why we connected-- like mind, like heart. You see, her nature was to put others before herself. This is my fondest memory of her. Home coming queen aside, she was a beautiful soul.

It's been many years since I've seen anyone roller skating (outside of Venice Beach). How fascinating that yesterday, while waiting for a red light to change green, a man sashayed across the street in roller skates. I thought of Dar then. After the signal changed, my eyes focused on an oversized billboard for Deleon liquor.

I then knew she got her skates back.

Much love and heartfelt prayers to her entire family.

My deepest sympathy to the DiLeo family. Darlene, my sister Michelle Vitkauskas, Lisa Carrozza and I went to the Bahamas in the early 80s with Darlene. We had such fun. Darlene was a wonderful person and will be missed.
