i wss friends with ed and marni when they lived in hasbrouck heights in the mid 80s. Ameka and Anton were toddlers and Ed was always a sweetheart. We went to each other's parties and ppl always recognized him and he could not have been kinder or more generous. He would see them a few times each summer when we had parties at our cottage in Pines Lake NJ and would always remember their names. Very talented and lovely man. Gone way too soon. Chris and Jim Breit
I worked with Ed Lauter on the film YOUNGBLOOD (with Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, and Cynthia Gibb). Ed was a prince of a guy! A consummate actor and professional with an amazingly strong constitution... so I couldn't believe it when I saw this news. He was too young, too strong, too solid. My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends.
To the Family: I have watched Ed for many years, man and boy, and I found myself looking forward to his next appearance. He did a great job of acting, and I am sure touched the lives of many, giving them happiness. Thanks!
I can't believe Ed is gone. His energy, just his smile, laughter and those amazing stories. I will deeply miss him.

An Old Friend
If Ed Lauter hadn't been born, he would have to have been invented. He was a great actor, whether you loved his characters, or hated them. Whether he was bad guy persona with a heart of gold, or the consummate "second fiddle" guy, I loved watching him on the screen.
Rest easy, Mr. Lauter. You've entertained millions, and the world is a better place for your having lived.
Ed was pivotal in his favorite movie cast "Longest Yard"
I had the privilege of meeting him one time in a supermarket in Long Beach, California and he was so cool about me recognizing him! He will be missed by every fan and I pray that God gives his family comfort in this trying time.

God bless you and your family, you will be missed.
Ed and I were classmates from the 5th grade through HS graduation. He was a great guy - and a wonderful actor.
I last saw him in Santa Fe, NM about 6 years ago when he was there making a movie starring Liam Neeson. Ed, Liam, my wife and I chatted for almost an hour - and Liam commented that Ed was someone he respected as an actor.
I am deeply saddened by Ed's passing. My sincere condolences to his family.
Ed was easily recognizable and always acted the part of who he played. Many actors today can only play themselves.
He seemed easy to relate to and struck me as one of those actors you'd enjoy meeting. Had the opportunity to meet Clint Eastwood many years ago skiing and it was lots of fun. Wish I had a venue to have told Ed how much I enjoyed many of his roles. RIP big guy.
My deep Condolences to the family. God has made a promise to bring our loved ones back to us.
Sincerest condolences and best wishes to Mr. Lauter's family and friends. We are among his many, many fans; he was a great actor and I am sure a great man. He will be missed greatly

Another one of my favorite actors is gone. He did an outstanding job playing the role of Frank Lee Morris is ALCATRAZ - THE WHOLE SHOCKING STORY. It is with sadness that his name is added to those actors from that movie who have preceeded him in death.
I enjoyed his character in Wagon's East.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
May God give you all peace and comfort during this most difficult time. Mr. Lauter was a fine actor who will be remembered by many fans in the coming years. Looking forward to seeing him in his movies yet to be released.
Ed was one of my fathers best friends since childhood and never forgot where he came from or his old friends. A few of the old guys from his childhood got together recently in the carolinas and played golf and had a lot of laughs... Ed was a very funny guy......and unlike most of his "bad guy" characters, was a very sincere and warm hearted man. My dad told me that on the first day of their golf trip Ed bought one of those visors with the spiked hair and wore it the entire 4 days.....even out to dinner....he liked having hair on top of his head for a change....as I said he was a funny and fun man. I am terribly saddened to hear of his passing too soon. My sincerest condolences to his wife Mia and his four children. Peace, Michael Glynn
God Bless a great actor, and a man I was always glad to see in movies. As he said in the last line of "The Longest Yard",.."Game Ball"! Keep playing Ed. You were great at it.
My condolences to the family
May the God of comfort provide you with the strength needed to cope with your loss.
Another Soldier Gone Home!
My first movie role was in "The Midnight Man" directed by Burt Lancaster. Ed was in that too. We did a scene together. He had very good instincts as an actor and could play anything. He was what all character actors should aspire to be. He was also a gentleman both on the set and off. Rest in peace, my friend.
I remember Ed Lauter from Midnight Man, shot partly in Anderson, S.C.The crew rented cars from us. He seemed like a nice man. God will comfort the family and may he rest in peace.
R.I.P Mr. Lauter. Enjoyed your work for many years.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Ed was an Actor , you never forgot
after seeing one of his movies, I thought
he was great. God Bless His Family, His sprite will live On.......
Met him in East Northport one time, very nice and spent a good ten minutes with me. Was in Sea Biscuit as well. Gentleman. RIP Ed.
in God's care rest in peace
I will miss Ed Lauter tremendously. I remember most of the movies he was in. When I saw his roles, he was kind of like Craig T. Nelson, who played on the t. v. series, "Coach", kind of mean and gruff with words that spat out like nails, but with a reason behind them. I am sure he had a "softer side of Sears" to him, too! Ed was one of those actors that you loved him or hated him, but always respected and admired him. He was a man's man, the kind of guy like the one who, unfortunately escapes me, right now, he was the lead actor in the movie, "The Stepfather", and the star of the t. v. show, "Lost", that was always on your case, but in the end you were glad he was. Ed was a tremendous talent no matter what role he had. I will miss his acting skills deeply!
Mia and Family,
We were deeply sadden to hear of the passing of your dear husband. Keeping the family in our thoughts and heartfelt prayers in this difficult time. I remember some of the movies he was in. I have enjoyed his work for many years -- I remember seeing him in "The Longest Yard" when it was released in 1974, and greatly enjoyed his performance in that film.
Just the other evening, I saw him in an early episode of "The Waltons."
Any production of which he was a part was guaranteed to be greatly enhanced by his appearance.
Ed Lauter was one of my favorite character actors, whether he was on television or the big screen. I'm sorry to see that he left us so soon. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Captain Knauer.
