Joan was a wonderful actress, the kind never to be seen again. I just watched "This Above All" for the umpteenth time; one never tires of seeing the brilliant performances of this actress. She made her roles so believable that I've often found myself to be part of the film. Not knowing her personally, I could only wish to have met her to tell her how much she has meant to me. I do hope Joan Fontaine had a great life and that she has peace in the afterlife. Thank you Joan....

Sincerest condolences to Joan's two daughters,Deborah Leslie Dozier,Martita Pareja Calderon, and to her sister,Olivia de Havilland. As a loyal fan since '97, I never missed sending Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland Fontaine, Christmas, Birthday, Valentine,Easter, Mother's Day, and Thanksgiving Day Cards. She surprised me on several occasions by reciprocating postcards. They will be cherished forever! Joan and Orson Welles created a most unique romantic chemistry, for me, in Jane Eyre. She is a "Great Lady", who will truly be missed!
January 15, 2014
She was a friend of mine for over 35 years. What can I say!

Every time I watched a Fontaine movie a rose grew somewhere. I think of Orson calling "Jane" once your spirit arrived.

One of the last greats from the Golden age of Hollywood is gone-a woman with class, elegance and talent. From Rebecca, Jane Eyre and Suspicion to Maid's Night Out, you were exceptional in everything you did. How I mourn your passing. RIP dear Joan. You are gone but never will be forgotten.

And, when she shall die, take her and cut her out in little stars, and she will make the face of heaven so fine, that all the world will be in love with night, and pay no worship to
the garish sun.
January 04, 2014
One of the greatest. The only Mrs De Winter. So sad to hear the news. My daughter rang me at work to tell me as she knew how much I admired you. Your films have always been a great joy to me. You were so beautiful, real class.

Praying peace for your family and friends. You will be greatly missed! You are the classiest lady I've ever watched on the big screen. Just last year she signed and returned and autograph for me and my daughter. Thank you for taking your personal time for us. I will never forget it. I am truly saddened to hear of her passing. Thank you Joan for all the movies you've left for us to watch, my favorite is Rebecca. To my daughter you'll always be the pretty lady.:)

As a lover of classical films, I couldn't believe that I never watched any of your films (except for Jane Eyre) until weeks before your death. Now that I've seen 9 of them (so far), I know that you've easily taken the top spot of my favorite actresses. Thank you for sharing your incredible beauty and talent.
December 30, 2013
My love of classic film started about 10 years ago when I saw Joan Fontaine in "Rebecca" and "Suspicion". For that reason she holds a very special place in my heart. I send my condolences to all of her family and friends.
December 30, 2013
Joan was one of the last of her kind----both an actress and a star. A true renaissance woman who was at home on the stage or screen, piloting a boat or plane, or lecturing about English antiques. She was a lovely, gracious and charming lady of the old school whose beauty, wit, elegance and erudition will never be forgotten. The world is a more coarse and common place for losing your light. Rice C. Pritchard
December 30, 2013
Oh Joan, I only recently knew of your career, and I've been spellbound by your performances in Suspicion and Rebecca. You were a gift to the world of cinema. I will miss you, rest in peace...

Joan, I will miss being your neighbor, and all the lovely lunches we had in Carmel. You were always so sweet and a great friend. I will miss you. RIP
December 29, 2013
She was my heroine and strong woman role model. She faced fear, the unknown, and faced her doubters head on and won the hearts of all.
December 29, 2013
What a great actress.
December 26, 2013
A beautiful and talented lady who brought elegance to every role she played. I will never forget as the second Mrs. De Wynter, Lina from "Suspicion" or Jane Eyre. She will be dearly missed
December 26, 2013
Each of us will always hold a special place in our hearts for Joan Fontaine. May you each find comfort in that she is in God's memory, with so many others of our dear ones, awaiting to be awakened.  Until then keep her memories alive!

The golden age has gone, and now Ms. Fontaine has been taken from us also. No one compares to these stars of yesteryear..they were real STARS! Drama and comedy like it was just doesn't exist now. She was one in a million and will never be forgotten. Every movei she was in was exquisite. She can never be replaced. Gone for ever now but will never be forgotten, thankfully!!

"A Star has dimmed in the sky, we lost another wonderful actress of Hollywood Glamour Days." She was a beautiful woman whose works in film with forever be viewed as one of the great actress of all time."
December 17, 2013
If ever there was an "old school" actress that could make you sit up and watch and listen, it was Joan. Her glamour, sophistication, and her acting chops were always, like her sister's, Olivia, Oscar worthy. An acting giant who no one will ever hold a candle to, don't believe me? Just see her movie, "Rebecca". This one was so good it sent chills down my spine. Ms. Joan will definitely be terribly missed. Bet she and Peter O' Toole, who just recently passed, are swapping Hollywood stories right now!
December 17, 2013
"A good name is better than good oil" says Ecclesiastes 7.1. Ms. Fontaine was a wonderful actress. She is one of the few actresses whose movies I watch over and over again. Her name will endure.
December 17, 2013

Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
December 17, 2013
I was a telephone technician in Carmel, Ca. and would at times go to Ms. Fontaine's home for repairs. She was so nice and cordial to me offering water and a smile. She lived with her pets whom kept her company. She would always greet me at her gate to let me on to her property. A petite woman but still very strong last I saw her 6 years ago. Goodbye Joan, always remember you. Tom M.
December 17, 2013
To the Family, friends and fan of Ms. Fontaine. My deepest condolences on your loss. May God comfort and strengthen your family during this time of grief.
December 17, 2013
I am so sorry for your loss. I am also sorry that when my father had a date with Ms. Fontaine in Atlanta in 1977 and brought her by our home on our second anniversary that I was too young to have really fully then appreciated who she was. As newly weds, my husband and I were busy trying to cook lobster thermador from Julia Childs' cookbook. She was very gracious to us and since that time I have seen most if not all of her movies. She was a marvelous actress and starred in what should be always considered the classic greatest movies. I wish I had realized then that I was sitting next to someone who had kissed Cary Grant!
December 17, 2013
I met Joan when I worked for a theater company back in the '70s and was lucky enough to have enjoyed her friendship for the past three-plus decades. As a shy, gawky 12-year-old when I saw and fell in love with "Rebecca" (still my favorite movie of all time), if anyone had told me I'd become Joan's friend, I would have said impossible. Man would walk on the moon first. Well, man did eventually walk on the moon; and, equally miraculous, the glamorous Joan Fontaine did befriend that shrinking violet. I enjoyed many Thanksgiving weekends at her Manhattan home, as well as a visit to her Carmel home. She even visited my home once. In between these visits we kept in close touch by mail and phone until the sad day she died. She ceased being a "Movie Star!" to me--she was simply Joan--my dear, precious friend. I shall miss her.
December 17, 2013
My book group just finished Rebecca and in my mind I kept seeing Joan Fontaine. She will be missed But not forgotten .

Such a joy to watch her body of work! Thoughts and prayers to those closest to her heart!

Another legend is gone. Just lost Peter O'Toole and now Joan Fontaine. The great stars are leaving us the same as our Greatest Generation WW2 Veterans.

So glad to have TCM to watch these wonderful stars in an era when there was class and glamour. Sad, that the two sisters were rivals. They were both wonderful on screen.

My sympathy to her Friends and Family
