I met him when I came to Courteenhall with a group from Waltham Abbey and Nazeing, where he was Lord of the Manor. He made us feel very welcome - a lovely, courteous man and it was a great pleasure and privilege to meet him.

Sir Hereward and Lady Wake were kind and generous hosts to a visit to the fabulous Arboretum in the grounds of Courteenhall. Led by Lord Longford, in aid of the Milton Keynes YMCA,it was a memorable day for all our guests and a testimony to the charitable nature and the commitment to their local community of the Wake family and Sir Hereward especially. My condolences to the family
