I never flew on the same squadron as Sir Peter but I met him throughout my RAF career. A thorough gentleman and an inspirational leader, he was a professional pilot and commander who impressed all those who knew him. RIP.

I will never forget on the last evening of 1 Sqns second tour Sir Peter ejected into the sea, we were all on our way to tea. He was swiftly picked up and taken to hospital. It was 1 Sqns leaving do and the Brigadier was there to see them off. Sir Peter was late turning up, obviously, but when he did arrive, still in flying gear and wet etc., he passed the Brigadier and went straight to the bar to by his groundcrew a crate of beer, only then did he go back and speak to the Brigadier! I also met Sir Peter at Duxford a year or so ago and we talked about this and other subjects, he willingly gave me his signature, when I explained about a picture I had where his signature had faded, which I have treasured, a truly inspirational man. Deeply saddened, he will be missed. My condolences to his family, RIP Sir Peter. Regards LJM

Shocked. My father, Peter's godfather, was so very proud of him and his achievements.

I was so very sad to hear of Sir Peter's passing away. The many fond memories of 1 Squadron and the fun times we all had together, I will never forget. A photograph I treasure which I took is of Peter and Mark, after taking off together from RAF Wittering on route to the Falklands, just before they disappeared into the sky. Much love and thanks to you Peter and my heart felt condolences to your family.

So sad. My sincere condolences to friends and family. He led an impressive life.
I served with him, albeit briefly, on 20 Sqn in Singapore in 1968.
Our ways diverged until a Farnborough dining in night at which he was guest of honour as CAS. His words were very well received and everyone was most impressed with his stamina on his feet very soon after a hip replacement.
May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear that such an honourable and true gentleman has been taken so suddenly and my condolences to Carolyn and the family. He was without doubt the best Squadron Boss I worked under in my 39years service and I will never forget his kindness, especially after a successful ejection over Stanley airfield where he refused to be taken to hospital, instead treated all the 1(F) Ground-crew to a beer.

Condolences to the family. Enjoyed time as a fellow pilot with Peter on 20 sqn in Singapore in the 60s. He always made time for former friends and colleagues and it was good to catch up with him at various events through the years.
So sad that he has been taken so suddenly. Will remember a true gentleman, great sportsman and talented pilot.
RIP Sir Peter.
