BURLINGTON - Bessie Walker McIver, 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at the Village at Brookwood. She was a lifelong resident of Burlington and formerly resided on Willowbrook Drive.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1913, to Benjamin Moore Walker and Bessie Walker Walker. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Charles Almon "Mon" McIver in 2006.
Bessie graduated from Burlington High School and attended NCCW (now UNC-G). Before starting a family, she worked as a bookkeeper at May's Hosiery. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington. She served on the Board of Visitors for Elon University. Bessie was a former "Pink Lady" at Alamance County Hospital and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her daughter, Janie McIver Robertson and husband Arnold of Reidsville; grandson, Jeffrey McIver Robertson and wife Stacy of Charleston, S.C.; and great-grandson, Marcus Hank Robertson, also of Charleston.
She was predeceased by eight sisters, Annie Rowan, Hattie Walker, Fannie Lee Henry, Aetna Wyatt, Corinna Walker, Ruth Wyatt, Willa Hood and Minerva Sherbondy; and one brother, Benjamin Walker.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at 4 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following the service. There will be a private inurnment in the church's columbarium at a later time.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the love and care given to her by the staff of The Village at Brookwood and by the staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell.

Your mom was precious to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I got to spend with her. I will miss her smiling at me every time I walked in the door! I know you are saddened that she is gone, she is with her husband and Sisters she talked so much about. I know you find peace in that. You are in my thoughts and prayers, another family to me!
