John "J. L." Cheek

Services celebrating the life of John "J. L." Cheek will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Reverend David Cranford, officiating. Burial will be at Tioga Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

The family asks that visitation be observed Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will resume Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

John Cheek, 71, of Tioga, passed from this life on December 3, 2012, at his residence.

He was the founding member of the Atlanta Hills Hunting Club where he remained a member for 25 years. John was also a member of the Tioga First Baptist Church, Alexandria Chapter of the VFW and an avid bowler with the Syndicate League for over 40 years.

He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps and during his working career, he worked at the Kraft Paper Mill in Pineville as a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Edith Perry Cheek; first wife, Judith Hasha Cheek; second wife, Rita Manuel Cheek; and two sons, John Lee Cheek, Jr. and Cecil Tyrone Cheek.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Matthew Cheek and wife Quincy of Lecompte, Alan Cheek and wife Kristie of Pineville; daughters, Felicia Schindler and husband Ray of Pineville, Monica Ferguson of Centerton, Arkansas; brother, Theodore Cheek, Jr. of Prospect Community; sisters, Margie Mayfield of Lecompte, Nancy LaCombe of Echo, Janell Land of Lecompte; grandchildren, Alison Smith of Centerton, Arkansas, Aaron Ferguson of Bentonville, Arkansas, Anthony Wells of Ball, Logan Cheek of Lecompte, Gavin Cheek, Courtney Nobles, Jesse Watson, Ray Schindler III, all of Pineville, Katie Watson of West Monroe; great grandchildren, Jaycee Ferguson and Addison Ferguson.
