Dear Maria, Elena and family,
I did not know until this evening (October 31, 2013) that Mrs. Burns had passed away. I was asking Karen at Bob's Footlongs about her as I saw her great grandson working there. I felt so sad and am so sorry that I did not know until tonight. Mrs. Burns was one of my favorite teachers back in 1957. I was in her first grade class. Even after over 50 years she always remembered me whenever we would happen to see each other in Fortuna. The last time I saw her was at her 100th birthday party. That was such fun seeing her and several former classmates. And seeing Maria again after so many years. And to see one of the Blomquist girls that my brothers and I would play with as children when we visited Art and Lydia. At Mrs. Burns birthday party she gave Mary Renner Johnson and I a hug and said "oh, two of my students!" Mrs. Burns was well loved and well thought of. I will remember her with kindness and happiness of years passed. She was a wonderful teacher and person.
