He had an extended family of seven nieces and nephews who loved him. Phil is also survived by his devoted companion of over 17 years, Carol Millsap of Fort Bragg. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks, to Jerry Nelson of California Real Estate and Phil's good neighbors, Robert and Noreen Edwards, for being true friends in his time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support a scholarship in Phillip's name for students of the Eureka High School. I had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know Phil in Rancho Mirage, CA, a year ago. He had a heart as big as his smile which was exceeded only by his willingness to help others. I was very fond of Phil and am deeply saddened to hear of his death. Happy trails to you, my friend, wherever you may be...

I knew Phil since he was my neighbor in 1978. He was a really nice guy. We didn't hang out much together, but our paths managed to cross every year or so. I'll miss running into him; sorry to know that won't be happening again.
