Dear Wilda & Family-- You are in our thoghts at time time. Truly a shock for us. He was a dear man to many.
Betty & Bill Barton
My most sincere condolances to all of the Grunert Family. I have many fond memories of Jay as I grew up hunting and fishing around the Grunert cabin for more than 40 years. I will truly miss losing quarters to him at 31 and him teasing me whenever I saw him.Jay... if you find an old school teacher named Charlie up in heaven...share a laugh, play a game of cards, and just go fishin!
Dear Wilda, Phil, Larry, and Family:
I was deeply saddened to learn of Jay's recent passing. I'm well aware of how difficult it is to say good-bye to a loved one.
During my youth in Fortuna, Grunert's Sporting Goods was my most popular stop, and it was always fun to visit with Jay and to receive his pointers and words of wisdom about fishing and hunting. When it came to fishing, I fondly remember that he would always advise me to "leave some for seed", as I was leaving the store with my bate and fishing tackle.
I also remember Jay as a somewhat private person and as a principled and respected business man who loved his community. It appeared that he preferred to "work behind the scenes" for people and for worthy causes in our community in quiet and responsible ways.
It's nice to know that he loved and enjoyed his retirement years in Trinity County and that he was able to be with all of you for most of his 90 years. I'll always remember him with fondness and respect.
Linda and I extend our deepest and most sincere sympathy at this time of loss.
Sincerely,
Louis and Linda Bucher
