Carl W. Nelson, Jr, D.Min, lifelong minister and author passed away on Monday, May 5th in Longmont, Colorado. He was 89 and was suffering from ALS and Parkinson's. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Jay, his sister Margaret Oltrogge of Arvada, two daughters, Barbara of Longmont, Linda "Zanne" of Albuquerque, son Mark of Denver and two grandchildren. Mr. Nelson was a native of Denver and South High School graduate. He served in the Navy during WWII. He held degrees from Wheaton College, Fuller Reformed Seminary and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Mr. Nelson was a Young Life staff member from 1951-1981. He later taught school and founded a church in Memphis. He was the author of the 1972 book "Just the Greatest". He retired to Longmont in 1994. Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Grace Evangelical Free Church. Private Inurnment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Contributions can be sent to Grace Evangelical Church or Young Life and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
