George McDowall was someone that I along with my children Kirsteen & Allan held very dear. He was a loyal friend when I needed one and no matter the situation he could always make me laugh.
George was a great guy. I will miss him very much.
Pat & Family our thoughts are with you.

To the family of George I send my thoughts and prayrers.

I first met George in August 1981 aboard the Princess Marguerite II while on my honeymoon. As a blushing young bride, I sat in the front seat of the dining hall, enjoying the music and performance of George and his side kicks, and then found myself being singled out in the crowd as he flashed me his historical boxers! Whether it was the Scottish flag or the Union Jack I cannot say for sure, as I was blushing too much to really take notice. I remember being so impressed with his ability to engage the audience and bring tears of laughter to everyone's faces.
Some years later he re-entered my life as he was performing in at the Pig & Whistle in Nootka Square. It came to me then I must meet this man and get him to come and entertain for my seniors. He was a hard man to track down and as years passed I was finally able to connect with him in 1987 through my dear friend Julie....another Scott no less.
Well needless to say George (and Mary) provided wonderful program of music yearly at our special Scottish Dinners since 1987. That does just show dedication but speaks to his love for music and people.
His address to the haggis was impressive. His address in his Broad Scots Dialect, with the swirled the blade he down the scotch and make us feel like we have just witness something extraordinary. He made everyone feel special.
Whether it was performing for our residents or meeting up with him at Thrifty's while he was shopping with his grandson, his sheer presence always lighten my heart and brought a smile to my face.
I will truly miss my dear old friend...........till we meet again.

So very sorry to hear of George's passing. We met George through our friend and then-neighbour Mary Ross and it was always a delight to see him. He always had a big smile, a kind word and good jokes. Our deepest sympathy to Pat and all the family and to Mary and Deg and family. His musical talents and performances will be missed and remembered with much fondness.

George and my Geordie Dad, Bill Ackinclose, worked together in the Shipyards and had lots of laughs. Mum (Mary), Dad and friends loved to dance and often George was entertaining, sometimes at the Wig & Dickie. He was good at playing off the audience and had more fun when he knew people from the old country, like us. George phoned Mum beginning of 2012. Good memories. Mary & Wendy Ackinclose

Shared the stage with George and Mary Ross at the Pig and Whistle a few times. Thanks for the encouragement through the years George.
