To the Mitchell Family: Your Dad has been a heroic figure in my life. And I don't exaggerate. There've only been two: Francis Coppola, and George Mitchell. Everything about what he accomplished, and even moreso, what he dared to do, has been very inspirational to me. My curiosity started way back at UT Austin when Kirk spoke of a “Limits To Growth” conference, and I dug deeper to understand what exactly that was. I am so glad that I got the chance to chat with him 5 or more years ago in Galveston, when Kirk invited me to interview him, saying "here's your window”. I immediately flew into Houston then drove to Galveston with a small video camera in hand. Watching his routine from easy chit chat at Kroger's, to then accompanying him to his weekly meeting, then seeing him check out the status at one of his hotels, I saw a man who could mix with anyone at all, and see & extract value there.
Your dad was a great man, and he raised some super bright children, inculcating early habits like reading the NEWS in the newspaper in the morning at breakfast. Those habits paid off in all of you I have known, because I'm quite sure that your awareness of the world pulsing around you influenced the wide diversity of career industries each of you chose. I'm lucky to have met him.
