Paul Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2013.
Paul Smith

Paul "Brian" Smith, 42, of Killen, was welcomed home by his Lord and Saviour on Feb. 19, 2013, after a 26-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Brian fought the fight and walked the walk of being a Christian. Brian praised the Lord and gave Him all the honor and glory throughout his battles of life. He was one of the most caring and genuine people you would ever meet.

Brian enjoyed loving, laughing and spending as much time with his children as he could. He attended Faith Church and was a 1989 graduate of Brooks High School. He last worked at Pettey Machine Works in Trinity. Brian began racing lawnmowers in 2007 to pass the time, he began using mower racing as a tool in witnessing to people for the Lord. Brian was a member of the Bama Tennessee Lawn Mower Racing Association, where his username on their forum was "Follower of Jesus".

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, 5-8 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Elkins East Chapel, with Brother Tommy James and Brother Mike Nash officiating.

Brian was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Smith.

He is survived by two precious children, Emily Abigail "Abbey" Smith and Jonathan Brilee Smith, whom he fought for and told them frequently "that his love was immeasurable for them;" parents, Paul L. and Gloria M. Smith, Killen; brother, Curt Smith (Tammie), Killen; sisters, Kim Cawthron (Jim), Rogersville, and Gloria Ayn Goar (Chris), Killen; nieces, Lindsey Dill (Shandy), Annie Cawthron, Terah Smith, Bre Goar; nephews, Sawyer Smith and Will Cawthron; great-niece, Charlotte Dill; special friends, Bill and Brenda Morrow; and host of other friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Sheelvanth and the wonderful staff at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Cancer Treatment Centers of America) in Zion, Ill. for all their dedication that gave us 26 more months with Brian. Dr. Dorene Morris and Dr. Jason Wilkes, the care 6th West at ECM gave when he was admitted from time to time, Paula, Kim and Tracy of Gentiva Hospice. Thank you to Faith Church for the support you have given over the past and continue to give.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to help research pancreatic cancer KNOW IT, FIGHT IT, END IT at pancan.org or donate to the patient assistance program at Midwestern Regional Medical Hospital (CTCA), ATTN: Assistance in Healthcare, 2520 Elisha Avenue, Zion, IL 60099.

To Brian and his family,

Brian and I were friends in school and everytime I see a go-cart or an old lawn mower, I think of him and I think I always will. Brian was a good man, a great friend and had an amazing memory for our high school days. I know you are all missing him but I hope it helps to know the rest of us are too. Our prayers are still with you all.

I am sorry for your loss. Brian is with the Lord now and free from pain. Brian never failed to have a smile on his face or a prank up His sleeve for Steve and I when He saw us. Always coming up behind us and acting like someone else. He loved His children very much and told us awhile back that He wanted to make His time hear with them as happy as He could. He wanted to be strong for them. And Brian accomplished this and so much more, He never lost His faith in Christ and never let the cancer take away His sweet spirit. He will be greatly missed and we will always remember Brian with Love and admiration for His courageous fight with cancer. He is and will be an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace Brian you have earned it. We will meet again in Heaven.Praying for all of Brians family. Belinda and Steve hill

I have known Brian for a long time. We went to high school together and were also in the same Sunday School class at Faith Church. I held and played with his two precious babies in the church nursery often. Brian was a fighter, a friend, a brother in christ, and the BEST father of all to Abbey & Jonathan. Brian is an inspiration to us all; that no matter what we go through on this temporary life journey, always glorify and praise God in all that we do. We shall see each other again someday! Praise the Lord, King of Kings, Lord of all Lords. You are now Home with your Father. Bless you!

Brian will be missed. He was a real inspiration to us all during his battle with cancer, with his uplifting words & trust in The Lord. We all ask "Why" but Brian didn't, he knew God had a plan for him. I regret not coming by to see him but I loved reading his FB page for those encouraging words of praise. My prayers go out to the family & his children.
