My sympathies to the family. His Honor was one of my favorite judges. Judge Davila was a good man, a better prosecutor, and a fabulous judge. He wanted ALL the facts in a case and would not hear bovine feces. It was my honor to have been involved in cases in his courts.
Prayers for peace and comfort for Judge Davila and his family. May you find comfort in knowing that Judge Davila was loved and respected by everyone that had the pleasure of working with him. He was a true humanitarian. Judge Davila was a fair, kind, and compassionate man who took his responsibility seriously. He always attempted to help people in an effort to ensure that he would not see them in his courtroom again as a defendant. Judge Davila was a knowledgeable Criminal Law Professor that taught me so much, as both a student and a Police Officer. Rest in Peace Judge Davila. You will be missed by many.
To the Davila family, i am so sorry to hear about the passing of Judge Davila. He was an inspiration and encourager to so many of us at ODAR in Richmond and in some instances like a father. He will be deeply missed. While i've moved onto another office I still tell the stories of him. He will be missed. I'm praying that in all that god will continue to encamp his arms of love around you during this time
Joe : My friend at TJ and Always. What a great guy .What a superb role odel. We will all miss him...Bob Bortner, Louisville, Ky
I just recently heard of the passing of Judge Davila. I worked with him when he was ALJ for the Social Security Administration. He was a kind and gentle person. He was highly regarded. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family in their time of sorrow.
My Friendship with Joe began at TJ in 1952, and it endured for all the intervening years. His easy smile, love of a good joke, and expressed love for Friends and Family, make this loss a deep one. I will miss him for the rest of my life.
My thoughts and prayers are with his Family in their time of sorrow.
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Judge Davila. I had many cases before him in District and Circuit Courts in Richmond. He was always a fair and just jurist! I too was a Marine in Vietnam, and they say "all Marines go to heaven to guard the gates". I will meet you there "your honor", and I guess not only will you be guarding the gates but you can assist the Lord in judging who gets in!! Semper Fi!! Retired RPD
I had the honor to work with Judge Davilia as his and Judge Dulings Chief Deputy in the General District court for almost 5 years and can say he was a true and compassonate man as well as a judge of great character and understanding. Some did not like his decisions but in all actuality they were fair. He and Judge Duling were one of my greatest supporters especially when the late Sheriff Winston wanted to fire me but they both met with the Sheriff and requested that I not be let go and remain in my position at the time. For that I will always be eternally gratefull.
After leaving and taking over as head of security for Safeway stores and primarly working out of the location of Harrison and Grace street with members of the Richmond Police Department we presented numerous cases in both General District Courts and established a great repor with both Judge Davila and Dulig for the almost 10 years that the store was open. Your honor you will be missed.
To the family of Judge Davila - You will be in my prayers. Judge Davila was a southern gentleman and a credit to his profession. He set an example for others to follow.
Joe Davila ran his court with courtesy and compassion. I was fortunate to have known and worked with him in his capacity as prosecutor and judge. He was a 'gentleman' in the truest sense of the word.
Judge Davila was an honorable and professional jurist. He treated everyone, both police officers, and defendants, with respect. My sincere sympathy is extended to his family.

I loved his since of humor. He will be missed.
Judge Davila was a fair and compassionate man who didn't take his responsibilities lightly. I had the utmost respect for him,he will truly be missed.
Chris - I am sad to hear of your loss. You shared many good memories with me at MCI regarding your dad. GOD just received another angel and so be encouraged and I will keep you and your family in prayer.
a great friend..a fine officer and gentleman..rest in peace
It was a great pleasure to have worked with this man, he taught me a lot about the legal system and how he had such a deep respect for the law. In the 5 years I was Chief Deputy of the General Districh Court you couldn't have had a better legal team on the bench than Davila and Duling. They wll be greatly missed.
I lose a dear friend in Joe's passing. We enjoyed a lot of memories. Hope to see him again im heaven.

To the Davila family Sue and I are sorry we cannot be with you tonight and tomorrow but we are out of town and unable to return in time for the services. The "Judge" and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers. The "Judge" meant a great deal to me and was sort of a mentor at practices and games. His presence was welcome and his conversation and support was helpful. God Bless a good man that served his country and state with honor and dignity. "Well Done" and "God Bless" Judge Davila. Gone but never forgotten. Love to all.
ALJ Chuck Boyer - Joe worked for me and with me and it was my pleasure to know him. He will be deeply missed by many.
I just found out that my "Judgey" passed and am deeply saddened by this news. He was always like a father to me when he worked here and even after he retired. I will cherish the memory of him forever and keep him in my heart. I love you JUDGEY!!!
What a great person, had many cases with him and always enjoyed our times.
