Edith Newton

1922 - 2014

Pat Newton, 92, was born in San Francisco on Feb. 28, 1922. She moved to Vallejo in 1936, at 14, when her father began work on Mare Island. She attended St. Vincent's High School, graduating in 1940. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas R. Newton, in 1942. Pat worked as a dental assistant and as a teller for 20 years at the Mare Island Credit Union.

She and Tom enjoyed traveling and golf. They ventured somewhere almost every weekend in their trailer: Santa Cruz, Russian River, Tahoe, Berryessa. They eventually visited every state in the union, Canada, Mexician, and Europe. Pat was an active member of the Vallejo Woman's Golf Club at Blue Rock Springs for many years. In the chilly winter months, Pat and Tom also enjoyed a home in Palm Desert. Pat was an Emblem Club member of the Vallejo Elks Club and shared in activities at the Vallejo Naval Historical Museum.

Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Tom and sister, Lynn Restivo. She is survived by two sons, Thomas S. Newton (Jeanne) and David R. Newton (Stephanie). She has three grandchildren, Steven Newton, Rosalind Cattolica (Robert) and Katherine Newton and three great grandchildren, Cierra Oliverez, Tony Cattolica, and Lily Cattolica.

Services will be held at Twin Chapels Mortuary on Sept. 5 at 11 a.m., with internment following at All Souls Cemetery.
