We lived a few doors down from Signe for 8 years. She'd often take her daily walk while we were working in our front yard, and it was always a delight to stop and chat with her. She was such a cheerful, witty, and friendly neighbor. And she had a great sense of humor. She liked to make wisecracks at my husband's expense, wait for him to make a smart remark back at her, then pretend to go after him with her cane. During one conversation she told us that she'd been kneeling to tend her flowers, had been unable to stand up, and had pushed her "I've fallen and I can't get up" button for help. The fire department came quickly but, she complained, not one of those handsome young men had asked her out on a date! Signe had various physicial ailments at her age, of course, but never let them get in the way of her good nature and positive outlook. She was always a pleasure to be around. We have moved away from Vallejo (and have only just learned of her passing), but she will always be one of our favorite memories of our years there. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of such a special soul.
