WILKES-BARRE — Edmund G. Decker, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at home.
Mr. Decker was born in the Rolling Mill Hill section of Wilkes-Barre in April of 1924, a son of the late George and Louise Decker. He was a graduate of GAR High School, class of 1942, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Prior to retirement in 1986, he was a sales manager for more than 20 years at Prudential Insurance, receiving many awards and commendations.
Ed married his wife, Nellie, in 1953 and they enjoyed more than 60 wonderful years together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Peter, Albert and Raymond; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a nephew and niece.
Ed was very active all his life for his church, St. Anthony's in Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the church council for many years as well as a church lector. He also was past president of the Kassab Joseph post in Wilkes-Barre.
Ed is survived by his sons, Edmund and his wife, Patti, Mount Laurel, New Jersey, George and his wife, Sue, Enola, and Jeff and his wife, Linda, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Maria, Eddie, Eric and Elaina. He is also survived by his brother-in law, Leo; and sisters-in-law, Mala, Kay and Marie; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the owners and staff of Visiting Angels and all their caregivers for their many years of service and care, including Nancy, Maggie, Bonnie, Lisa and Elizabeth, as well as many others. Their care will never be forgotten. The family also thanks Celtic Home Nursing Care for their many years of service.
The funeral will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony/St. George Church on Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Hanna Karam officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mamary-Durkin Funeral Services Corp., 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.
