Mr. Summerall was my math teacher when I was in the 8th grade in Lake City. All the girls had such a crush on him and, of course, wanted to do well in his class. A friend and I worked especially hard and did exceptionally well...so well, in fact, that he wanted us to be placed in the 9th grade algebra class at the high school! For some reason, our performance declined a tad and we managed to stay in his class. He was such an inspirational teacher. I remember the huge line at the 8th grade dance and a marvelous cookout at his home. He did everything with such class, such professionalism, genuine compassion, and grace. Having lost my daddy, I know how painful this is, no matter how prepared one might be. May you find comfort in knowing so many people admired, respected, and cared for him.
April 22, 2013

Thoughts and prayers to the family of Mr. Summerall from Episcopal School of Jacksonville
April 19, 2013
Pat Summerall was a name and voice that all football watchers knew. But, I met Mr. Summerall and Cheri when he had his liver transplant at Mayo as Alton had received one and was in the room that was needed for Pat's inital recovery. Cheri and I first met at a one on one support meeting and shared the impact of this surgery. My brother was also then living in Lake City. As Pat recovered, he and Cheri were always concerned about the other patients and their families. They never passed without stopping to speak. In the last 9 years, I have always been happy to see Pat's name and know that he was able to enjoy the years after his transplant. To the family of the young man who was the donor, this was a most appreciated gift. The Summerall family will be in my thoughts as they cherish the memories of the past to sustain them in the coming days.
April 19, 2013
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
April 19, 2013
To the family of a national icon, God must need a great announcer this year...my sincerest condolences on your loss...from a true fan !
April 19, 2013
Praying for the Summerall family and extended family...I had the pleasure of meeting Pat before a Jacksonville Jaguar game and expressed my interest in broadcast television and radio, and he extended a warm handshake and very kind words that I will never ever in my life forget. I will certainly miss him. He has been my inspiration to move forward in life. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathy at this time, at the loss of a gentleman and athlete alike.

April 19, 2013
I pray for the family of Pat Summerall – I know they will truly miss their respected patriarch. I always felt that Pat was a very spiritual man and now I know it. I am also a HUGE Pat Summerall - John Madden fan! I tried my best not to EVER miss a game if the 'Dynamic Duo' were calling the plays and covering the players and coaches. Although I loved watching the pros when Pat and John called the games – I equally loved it when Pat did the play-by-play for the major college games too. Rest in peace Pat - I and millions of your fans will forever miss you! Bless your spirit and your family.

My first knowledge of Pat Summerall was as a place kicker for the New York Giants. He had tremendous power as a straight-line kicker in the glory days! I remember saying his last name as the football travelled end-over-end. It seemed to say " Summerall". It's so sad to hear of his passing. His other gift was his voice...perfect for broadcasting games. You're a hero, Pat. Many great memories! My prayers are with his family.

One of the nicest, most generous and thoughtful men I've known. When my father passed away, Mr. and Mrs. Summerall called right away to see what they could do to help my mom in any way. Children at St. Jude's hospital are better, thanks to Pat Summerall's kind heart. Of course, his children are remarkable people, too, as the apples never fall far from the tree. Pat was the best television play by play announcer for football ever. Today, so many announcers are too busy with promos and shots of owners and movie stars. Pat was only concerned about the game. He worked so well with Tom Brookshier and then John Madden. I have misssed his announcing since he retired. I miss him knowing his great voice is now silent.

To the family of Pat Summerall:

I read with great sadness of the passing of Mr. Summerall and would like to extend my condolences.

My mother, Marion, was a classmate of Mr. Summerall and I enjoyed stories of their youth. In my own seventh and eighth grade years, I was honored to have him as a teacher. He played sports on the weekend then returned to his home town to teach all of us. I greatly respected him and followed his career for years.

He made a great impact on me and as a matter of fact helped me to gain the knowledge necessary to write. I have been honored to have published a book of our hometown and family and my second book is now in production. I thank him for all he taught me.

Please know that he is much revered in our little Florida town and I send my fervent prayers for your swift healing and peace of mind on his passing.

Our human existence can be wonderful; it can also cause much pain and heartache. His journey is now complete and his suffering has been healed.

Rest in the knowledge he is finally at peace and immune to hardships.

God bless you and your families in this time of sorrow.

Everyone in Akron, Ohio remembers Pat coming here for golf tournaments, in particular the made-for-television CBS Golf Classic which took a couple weeks to tape.

After working all day at Firestone Country Club, Pat liked to go to the Diamond Grill for a prime steak and home fries, and was very affable.

He was a nice man
April 17, 2013
My condolences to the Summerall family. What a man he was! I grew up listening to his smooth, unmistakable voice echoing throughout our home. What a blessing he must have been to those near to him! I am most thankful for him overcoming alcohol addition and reportedly accepting Jesus Christ!! Wow! What a winner and testimony! One day I'll meet him for the first time!

ONE GREAT ANNOUNCER, May God comfort your Family and Friends
April 17, 2013
Dear Summerall Family,
My dad, Jack Smith, who died in 2008, grew up with your dad in Lake City and they worked together at the local movie theater. One of the thrills of my childhood was your dad inviting my family to the Giants' practice in Conn. I was 9 or 10 (more than 50 years ago). The players were SO big and so nice to us. I doubt our families stayed in touch, but your dad was always special to all us Smiths. My heart is with you.
