GASKINS Mr. Eugene Gene Gaskins, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013. He was born in Chula Vista, CA and has lived in Jacksonville for most of his life. Gene graduated from Andrew Jackson in 1941, enjoyed participating in sports, especially boxing. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and U.S. Air Force, serving in WW II and Korea. He owned and operated Arlington Business Machines. Gene & Louise were former members of Lake Forest Baptist Church and current members of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Prime Timers Group. He preceded in death by his daughter, Sharron Cushman and his son, Robert W. Gaskins, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Louise Kelly Gaskins; 3 grandsons: Tony Lagman (Jennifer), Drew Lagman (Cynthia) and Robert W. Gaskins, Jr. and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 N. Main Street, with Dr. Herb Reavis, Jr., officiating. His family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM 11:30 AM on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In memory of Gene Gaskins, the longest-surviving member of Crew 64, 715th Sqdrn, 448th BG, 20th CW, 2nd AD, 8th AF, on this the 70th anniversary of their surviving the crash-landing of their B-24 "Vadie Ray" on the Night of the Intruders, upon their return from the Hamm mission.
