Suzanne Lanier is my friend. As children we played together and I well remember the strength, warmth, and intelligence surrounding busy Dr. Lanier. He was an exceptional man, father, and husband...my condolences to his loving family.
When I was a child Dr. Lanier was the first doctor to "treat me like a person" and talk to "me". He had an interest in what I was interested in and make me realize that doctors really are people too! I just loved him and thank God he was in my life. God bless your family.
Dr. Lanier was my pediatrician and my siblings during the 50's, 60's and 70's. I remember him as a warm and caring doctor. I was never afraid to go to the doctor. My mother said he would always call you back no matter what time of day. She said she remembers him even coming to our house. He was a dedicated doctor and an integral part of the community. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
To the Wonderful Lanier Family,
I know of no other man who had such a positive impact on so many people as Doc. He set an example for all wh had the honor and pleasure to know him.
Jimmy & Family, I was very sad to learn just yesterday of your Dad's passing. My Helen would always love seeing your parents at OUMC and she would always call Doc Lanier "Her doctor". What a tribute to a career well spent and lives touched. I take solace knowing they are in Heaven and both fully healed of any earthly ailments. My best regards and condolences to your family.
Mary, I will always remember how Dr. Lanier and my husband John supported us at WMU meeting. Blessings to you. Edith Jarriel
A life to be celebrated. A wonderful man. It was an honor to have known and worked for him. He was gracious and kind. Everyone who knew him loved him. It makes me sad that he is no longer with us. He is with the King of all healers and heaven is rejoicing, My prayers and sympathy to his family and friends for their great loss.
Love, Patti Barton
Dr. Lanier was my pediatrician for 15 years, and I remember him fondly as a gentle soul with a wry wit. When my family joined Riverside Baptist Church in the mid 70's I was delighted to get to know Dr. Lanier as a dedicated Sunday School teacher and jovial fellow church member.
Several years later, I reconnected with Dr. Lanier at Ortega United Methodist where his son and his family were members. I was the youth director and Dr. Lanier regularly volunteered as a guest speaker. I especially remember the time he led a frank and funny, yet spiritual, discussion about sexuality at one of our lock-ins.
To Dr. Lanier's family - you will be in the thoughts and prayers of the hundreds of us who knew and loved him. Know that his legacy lives on!
Among Dr. Lanier's patients from the mid-sixties to mid-eighties were my younger sister, nephew, and daughter. He was caring, compassionate and excellent -- a reflection of his Saviour. I pray that these tributes will comfort your family in your loss.
Dear Mrs. Lanier and family,
Let me add my name to the very satisfied patient list. Dr. Lanier kept me...as well as my 3 siblings...healthy from age 0 to age 18.
And I would always see the Laniers at Riverside Baptist...very faithful...many happy memories.
Love, Bob Lynch
Dr Jim was truly a great healer. As my pediatrician saw me though my illnesses until adulthood, where on occasion I still saught his advice. As my Sunday School and Youth Leader, he healed my soul and strengthened my character with sage words of advice I cherish to this day. You and Mary will always hold a special place in my heart and I am blessed to have known you. Thank you for helping me become the woman I am today.
I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed away. I don't think I ever met him, but to see how you turned out, he must have been one hell of a Man! You are in my prayers.
To the Lanier family, Your husband and father spent hours with us through the years in his office, in hospital visits and in late night phone calls. Hours with us meant hours away from you. Thank you for sharing this very special man with us.
Dr. Lanier was three of our childrens pediatrician and we loved him so much. He was greatly missed when he left the practice and will be greatly missed now. Your family is in our prayers.
Dear Mary and family,
We will miss our longtime friend and church member. Thank you for the excellent care he gave our children and the many good times we enjoyed at Riverside Baptist Church. Our prayers are with his family.

As a young man visiting my girlfriend (CandyCarter) at Riverside Baptist, I was fortunate to sit in on her Sunday night classes taught by Dr. Lanier. I thought him then the best teacher I had ever had. After college , grad school, and law school . . . That holds true. He was such an intelligent and compassionate man. He will be missed.

I grew up looking up to Dr. Lanier. He was my doctor until I was 18. I grew up in a perfect church that he was a leader and oldest member for a long time. Great man and role model. I wish there were more people like him. He was a good man.
Dr. Lanier was my childhood pediatrician. I will always remember his warmth and kindness. The lone bright spot of having to go to the doctor's office was getting to see him. The Lanier family will be in my prayers.
Dr. Lanier was my pediatrician in the 60's and 70's, from the time I was one year old (I had croup, my mom now informs me, and he sent us straight to the hospital) until I graduated from high school. In 1986 he wrote a letter on my behalf to his alma mater, Vanderbilt University Medical School-- a letter which I am certain carried significant weight in my being accepted there. I have now been a practicing pediatrician for 20 years, and images of the care I received from Dr. Lanier remain with me today. His gentleness, his thoroughness, his calm reassurance of my mother, his ability to seem unhurried. These are qualities which I strive not only to bring to my own practice of medicine, but which I seek to pass on to the medical students I teach. I could not have hoped for a better role model.
I dropped by his office a few years ago, hoping to tell him some of these things in person, but unfortunately he was not in. I am grateful to have the chance, now, to tell his family and any others who may read this. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. As I'm sure you know already, Dr. Lanier's influence will carry on long after his passing.
Dear Susie and Lanier family,
I was very sorry to hear of your father's passing. I know you will miss him terribly, but his love, his guidance, and his wisdom will always be with you. May the Lord grant you peace, and keep you safe always.
Dr Lanier was a good friend and faithful servant of our Lord. Our prayers are with his family.
Southside Baptist Church
Dr. Lanier was our families pediatrician from 1952 forward for 25 years. I have very fond memories, we never feared going to the Dr.as children. Dr. Lanier always made you feel comfortable.
My birthday buddy. Happy Trails Doc- until we meet again
I worked for Dr. Lanier from 1964 until he retired. I remained at Jacksonville Pediatrics until I retired in 2011. He was a wonderful physician and person. I can not say enough to honor him. To the family: Your loss is heavens gain. I can just picture him smiling down on you. He aways had a smile. May God bless all of you and guide you through this sorrowful time. My love to the family of one of the greatest pediatricians in Jacksonville. I will never forget him.
Bettye Padgett, RN
Dr. Lanier was our daughters pediatrician for many years when we lived in the Riverside and the westside. He took good care of them both. Our prayers are with his family. He was a good man.
Dr. Lanier was my doctor in the 50's and early 60's. You could tell he was all about he kids and was a wonderful doctor....even if he did put me on my first diet. He seemed very serious but when somehing was funny to him a little smile, almost boyish smile, came to his face. It was cute and I remember it more than 50 years later.
We met up again after 40 years when he attended Southside Baptist Church. Still the same Dr. Lanier.
He wil be greatly missed by us "kids".

Linda, Jimmy and Suzanne,
I'm thinking of you with much love as you say good bye to your father. I do remember him as such a sweet man, and I see all the wonderful contributions he made to people's lives.
So sorry to hear of Dr. Lanier's passing. I was in middle school and very ill and no other doctor could figure out what wrong with me. He sure did. May God Bless him as I know he will stall tall in heaven. A man of great love for children and life. My condolences to his family and friends.
Dear Lanier Family,
I have long loved and admired Dr. Lanier. His concern for youth and their relationship with God has been a lifelong source of inspiration to me and my ministry. May God grant comfort and strength to you and may good and happy memories of your remarkable husband, father and grandfather sustain you.
With love and deep appreciation,
Rev. Candace Carter McKibben
Dr. Lanier was our family's pediatrician. He cared for all of us and most of your children. He and my mother's best friend founded the medical mission at Lakeshore Baptist church an built another fine legacy. My mom and Mary have probably already organized a pediatric ward for him in heaven. How proud you all most be to have such a fine man as a father. Blessings to you all.
I will always remember Dr. Lanier as the doctor who sent me my first patient when I started my plastic surgery practice in Jacksonville in 1971.
He was a great role model for what a doctor should be.
Robert Duncan, M.D.
My prayers go our to the whole family. I know your dad was loved by many. The following is my prayer for you:
We seem to give him back to You, dear God, who gave him to us. Yet as You did not lose him in giving, so we have not lost him by his return. Not as the world gives, O Lover of Souls! What You give, You do not take not away. For what is Yours is ours always, if we are Yours.
Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and
death is only a horizon, and a horizon is
nothing save the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, O God, that we may see more clearly; draw us closer to Yourself, that we may know ourselves nearer to our loved ones who are with You. And while Your Son prepares a place for us, prepare us for that happy place, that, where they are and You are, we too may be; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Love in Christ, Mary-Stuart Pratt
What wonderful memories I have of Dr. Jim. He was my doctor, my children's doctor and my Sunday School teacher at Riverside Baptist Church. What a legacy he has left on this world. He has finally reached his final destiny...walking the streets of Gold with our Lord and Savior.
Dr. Lanier was my very favorite doctor; kind, gentle, soft-spoken and he NEVER made me get a "shot" when I was sick. May he rest in peace, and may your fondest memories of him bring you comfort and hopefully much warmth. God bless you all.
He was a very good pediatrician. He took care of my son while growing up and now he is 40....He will be truly missed. Sorry to here of his passing.
My children were "raised" by Dr. Lanier's practice as were many more in the area. He was a wonderful, caring man & his medical expertise was always right on the mark. The community and the medical profession has lost one of a kind. God Bless the family.
Sandy Hooker (Jason & Kelly)
