Really loved this man!!! It is an honor to have known him. His legacy of compassion, thoughtfulness, and genuine excellence will serve as a great inspiration for many future generations. Although technically I believe he was my great uncle (his brother Charlie - my grandpa), everyone in my family just called him Uncle Hayes. I'm proud of that b/c in losing Coach Tate to memory loss and him passing fairly early in my life; my Uncle Tate and Uncle Buddy treated me with kindness that really exceeded the expectation of the title Great Uncle. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing and send my condolences to his family and friends. Much love, Dave Russell

The Tate and Richardson families were lifelong friends. My father, O'Dann Richardson who died 5/4/13, not only loved Hayes as a friend! but had great respect for his business counsel. He and Hayes shared the same birthday and enjoyed swapping old stories from their younger years on the southside of Jax. Our sympathies to the Tate family. Kathy Richardson Barrow & Family

I started attending Rotary meetings in the early 80's. Hayes and I ate and spoke together often. He was one of the finest men that I ever met. I will surely miss him. I wrote a short story about one of our lunch meetings which included Hayes. God Bless this man. He was one-of-a-kind. http://www.jaxobserver.com/2010/10/14/jacksonville-hayes-tate-rotary-and-roasted-potatoes/
