"I met Tim on a work Detail when we were in Iraq about 3 months into our tour. We found we had much in common, with where we were from in California, our faith in Jesus Christ, and both wanting to go into the ministry once we got out of the Army. My walk with God really had dissipated at that time with being in a Combat MOS and just "going with the flow" of other soldiers. I never thought Christian could live the life he should in that type of enviroment, until Tim and my path crossed that one day in Iraq. We had lunch and I could just tell he was living the life God meant for us to live. I didn't find out about his passing until a week before we came home, until I saw his picture on the wall, that's when it hit me. I was hit by an IED on the same rout in Ramadi, on Oct 10, 2005 that disabled my bradley fighting vehicle. I do feel guilt that I am alive and other people aren't like Tim. I know that he was a Huge light in the world, and his unit, and shared his faith openly with everyone he came in contact with. May God be showering him with blessings in Heaven. I am proud that I was able to meet him, and be encouraged by his presence. May God bless his family!!!"

Thinking about Tim today. He was a wonderful guy, and he is missed and loved much.

Dear Watkins Family and Friends:
I once sent a letter with some pictures a long time ago, shortly after Tim left. I thought I'd post a few memories here. I was in basic and airborne school with Tim. One memory that stands out is Tim calling up the local churches and interviewing the pastors. He was the one that found a church for James Shaw and I and that's where I subsequently met my wife lovely wife. So that is one impact I can thank him for, that will last a lifetime. Another time that stands out is when we were out with our church to feed the homeless and Tim went off to pray by himself there in the parking lot. I guess it struck me, because few people stop and pray quietly in public. It was his close and personal relationship with Christ that impressed me. He was also one of the few of people I have known that given tough decision to make, I feel confident that he would choose the right one and follow God. Many people mattered to him. Thanks for the opportunity to get to know him. If anybody would ever like to contact me my e-mail is fly4fun172 at hotmail dot com.

Dear the Watkins Family,
My name is Patrick Foley, and I was a squad member of Tim's (3rd platoon, 1st squad). On Oct. 15, 2005 Tim and I were having a conversation while on gard together, and he was telling me of what he wanted do to do after his time spent in the infantry. Tim said that he wanted to use his experience in combat to help others, by becoming a chaplin in the army, so that he could better relate to them and what they had gone through. He said that he was willing to give up his dream of flying helicopters, so that he could help others in a better way. That was the last conversation that I had with Tim, and it was so typical of the type of person that he was. You raised a stand-up son, and I am very honored to have met Timothy, and have the privilege to call him my friend.
I was in the vehicle directly behind Tim's on Oct. 15th 2005, and not a day passes without Tim on my mind. That was the worst day of my life, as it was for many others. I am sorry that it took until now for me to write this, I just wanted to let you know some of your son's future intentions. He was a great person and I miss him dearly.

Hi love,I can't believe it has been four years already. I still think about you all the time and miss you more than ever. So many things bring your memories to my heart and mind. I know I haven't always done what is right but hope that you are proud of who and what I have become over the past 4 years. God has allowed me to help others around me that are going through what I did on that life changing day. I am thankful for that. I still and will always love you. Who you were and what you mean to me has never changed and is very alive in my heart and pray that will one day show in my life more by helping others more. I LOVE YOU>
