Two weeks ago I began my training for the upcoming Sept memorial stair climb in OKC. I carried Tim's tag last yr and will again this year. A priviledge and an honor. His presence carried this 55 yr old body through last yr and I will need his help for this 56 yr old body this yr. I know we will make it again. Riding high forever !! They climbed so we will !!

I am Bailey, an 8th grade student who has recently been accepted to go on the New York Trip that 48 students get to attend. This New York Trip isn't like most, though. Instead of going maybe to a zoo, we go to learn about 9/11 and hear the stories of those who lived through that tragic day. Along with our trip, the selected 48 students have to create a memorial to our assigned fireman. I was lucky in getting Timothy Matthew Welty to research. After looking through these comments, I realize what an amazing guy Timothy was. I am so sorry for all of those to lost him on 9/11. I would have considered myself lucky for knowing Timothy. He put his life at risk to save others. His love for his family at home, and in the work force will never be forgotten and I will remember him always. To his friends and family I would like to send my condolences and I would love to hear from you to learn about who Timothy truly was.

On Sept 7 in OKC, OK I got to carry Tims picture and accountability tag in the memorial stair climb, and when completed, return his tag and ring the bell in his honor. It was more an honor for me. WE made the climb !! 110 stories, 1980 steps, 1hr38min. He rode that day and will ride forever !!! I will ask for his name again next year !! I will climb for him as long as I am able to make the climb ! He will never be forgotten and he will always be riding high as a firefighter !

I was walking my dog, Nikki, in Bowne Park when I first met Timmy. It was 1991. I was immediately struck by his abundant smile and fearless personality. I grew up in Flushing just blocks from him, and on that day, we became friends. Timmy and I danced at Malibu, rode on his motorcycle, and spent time together in the neighborhood with friends. Timmy was a beautiful person with an exuberant energy for life and a passion for dreams. I have never again met another person so pure of heart and so naturally happy. His talents were many and he excelled at everything he did. I remember one evening we went to Malibu, an iconic night club in Long Island. Some talent scouts happened to be there and Timmy was asked to dance on MTV, and he did! I remember him sharing with me his ambition to become a firefighter, it was a dream of his and he spoke of it often. And I remember how happy he was when he passed the test and was in training at his Firehouse. My time spent with Timmy was short, but his impact was great. I was a little better as a person after getting to know Timmy. I felt a little more enamoured with life, a little more alive. These are some of my personal memories which I have kept close to my heart. Its been 12 years and I often think of Timmy giving his precious life to help save others. No words can say what the world lost on that day.

After 9/11, I received a bracelet with Timothy's name on it. I originally posted in this guestbook about it and his dad, Bill, sent me a program from his service. It touched me greatly and seeing the similarities between Timothy's life and mine struck a chord. I think of you and your family often.
