CZELUSTA
Alice M.
Alice M. Czelusta, age 92, passed from this life into the arms of her loving God on October 18, 2013, at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh, MI, under the loving care of its staff and Hospice of
Lenawee.
Alice was a lifelong resident of Toledo, only to leave to be close to family care in the last few years of life. She was born on November 3, 1920, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Ewald) Knorr. She married Zephrine Czelusta on June 6, 1942, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2005, two days before their 63rd wedding anniversary.
She and Zeph met when they both played clarinet in the W.C. Smith band. While Zeph was deployed during World War II she worked at Bunting Brass and Bronze. As a full time wife and mother of four, she was active in scouting, and was famous for her skilled knitting, crocheting and quilting. At many potluck events, she provided her famous Calico Beans, which were always a big hit. Alice was also a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and an active
member of both Altar Rosary and Marian Societies.
Since Alice and Zeph both encountered heart surgeries, the couple became active in Mended Hearts, a volunteer organization, visiting and encouraging heart patients at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for over 25 years. Accredited visitors and lifetime members of Chapter 100, they became spokespersons for the organization and were honored by the Hospital for their contributions and dedication. Alice always felt they were giving back what was given to them. The couple also found enjoyment in their summer cottage at Clark Lake, MI, which they had built together and provided them with fond family memories.
Alice is survived by her four children, daughters, Margaret (John) Musielewicz of Britton, MI, and Barbara of San Anselmo, CA; sons, Thomas of Barboursville, Virginia, and Larry (Jill) of Barton, VT; nine grandchildren, Ted, Adam, Daniel, and Joel Musielewicz, Emily (Musielewicz) Swanson, Stefan and Josef Czelusta, Zeph Czelusta, and Leanne (Czelusta) Douglas, and nine great-grandchildren, Grace, Isaiah, Helena, Ella, Lydia, Kendyl, Sophie, Cecilia and Davin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents;
sister, Bernice; brother, Willis; and granddaughter, Molly Ann Czelusta.
Family and friends may visit Monday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Alexis Rd., where members of the Marian Society will lead a rosary at 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, at 9:15 a.m., in the funeral home, and continue with the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church at 10:00 a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Calvary Cemetery
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, American Heart Association or Hospice of Lenawee. Alice's family would like to thank her caregivers for their loving care and dedication with dignity and respect. Please share condolences at
