I had the fortune of working with some very bright people at Toledo Edison. Allie was the first and only person I knew who had a photographic memory. He could remember detail of something ten years ago like it happened this morning.

We had a boss, best boss I ever had, but Allie was of another opinion. Allie told me this episode when I asked him about the picnic basket.

Allie had decided to take the retirement package. His merit appraisal was due a couple of months before his last day. Allie certainly didn't wish to do an appraisal, so he put together a picnic basket for two with something to eat, fruit, wine, glasses and a table cloth.
He came to the appraisal and said to our boss. If we do an appraisal, it is likely we both will be upset at what the other says. Allie wished to remember their meeting in a more positive and pleasant manner.

So instead of an appraisal discussion, Allie and our boss had lunch for two.

All of the managers were at a friend's home. It was a unusual situation as we didn't socialize as a group.
Marie and I ended up talking with Allie and Martha. Allie liked Marie and entertained the four of us.
Later that week, Marie was making a strawberry rhubarb pie. It's a favorite and I said I looked forward to tasting it. No, it wasn't for me but for Allie. I brought it to Delaware and gave it to Allie. From that moment on, on our meetings, Allie always asked about Marie.

It is sad to see someone of such value go. But no doubt Allie's work was done.

Good Bye Allie, well done.

Allie was a special boss in my career. I will never forget the storms we weathered together at Toledo Edison.
