SHINDEL
Anne
Anne (Kornowa) Shindel passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones on May 1, 2014. She was born September 7, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio to Michael and Magdalena (Cieply) Kornowa. She graduated from Woodward High School in 1945, and also attended The University of Toledo.
In 1948, she married the love of her life, Hal Shindel. After working as a secretary at E. W. Bliss Co. and also several years for WSPD Radio in commercial scheduling, she and Hal began raising their four children in their west Toledo home. As a homemaker, Anne loved baking for her family and always had homemade cookies waiting as after school treats, along with cakes or pies for desserts after homemade meals. She and Hal also shared a love of bread baking, especially at the holidays when coffee cakes, nut breads, and cabbage stuffed pampushky would fill the kitchen table. As a huge Detroit Tigers fan, she enjoyed watching games on TV or spending summer evenings sitting on the porch listening to them on the radio.
She was a life-long member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rossford, Ohio, where she loved singing in the choir. She also enjoyed making pyrohy for the church while socializing with her many close friends. At Easter time she loved making Ukrainian Easter eggs, a tradition she passed down to her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Hal; two infant sons; sister, Mary Pelechaty; brothers, Andrew, Paul, David, and John Kornowa; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Mary Jo Kornowa, and brother-in-law, John Pelechaty. She is survived by sister, Natalie Kornowa;
sisters-in-law, Bernadine and Dottie Kornowa; children, Matthew (Lydia) Shindel, Barbara (Barry) Quattromani, Susan (Ihor) Maksymiak, and Robert (Karin) Shindel; grandchildren, Laura and Sarah, Thomas and Andrew, and Anne and Natalie, and great- grandchild, Mason.
Family would like to extend a special thanks to Connie, Tiffany, Aubry, Cindy, and Tim for their loving care and support.

Anne Shindel had her hands full being so kind and generous with all the kids that ran around our "Beaufort Ave. Family" neighborhood. I still remember Ernie Harwell calling the tigers game from her front porch! My thoughts & prayers go out to her family & friends who remain to honor her memory.

I was so fortunate to grow up in a neighborhood that included Anne and her family. She always had a warm smile and sweet hello called from the front porch. Such a caring soul and a wonderful neighbor. Matt, Barb, Sue and Rob, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Anne Shindel will continue to live on in my heart as someone who proved to be a wonderful role model as how to be a loving and generous adult. I've always felt fortunate to have been raised in a neighborhood where she provided good memories and my first friends. I know the birds are thankful for her as well. Godspeed Mrs. Shindel!

Anne was a beautiful and caring person that was a big part of my childhood and adult life. Living next door to her was a treat to see her smile and gentle way of speaking to all the neighborhood kids, and I will always treasure the birthday cards she gave me every year even into my late 30's. What a wonderful person, we love you Anne.

Anne was one of those people in your life that you will never forget, she was such a huge part of my childhood and young adult life. A beautiful person with a beautiful soul. I'm comforted in knowing that Anne and my Mom are in Heaven together probably leaning over a fence or sitting on a porch together having good conversations and laughter!
