Memories of Bernie

So many, from our early high school days; and, even though we went our separate ways, as did most 1953 Anthony Wayne graduates, it was Bernie who was instrumental in bringing many of us back together for our 47th, 50th, 55th and 60th class reunions. Her teacher skills were certainly put to good use organizing the efforts as well as recruiting assistance from long-time friends Wilma, Irene, Joyce and others. It was an honor to work with her and be a part of that team.

Through that reconnect it was evident that Bernie never lost her charm, dedication and drive to be successful. I believe this was true in everything she set her mind to - as her classmates, friends and loving family surely witnessed over the years.

No truer definition of classy lady would appear in any description of the term. And, as sad as it is that she's now gone from us, I will always carry the memories of her wit and spirit.

Bern and I were both members of the first class to graduate from the new AW building.
We were and always will be part of the Generals tradition.

We were both interested in the dramatic and acted in plays together. One of the plays was "The Minx from Missouri". Bern recently submitted a picture of the cast of that play to the Waterville paper and another of our friends sent me a copy. What memories we had.

We were often in direct competition and sometimes she won and sometimes I won. We were both, however, Homecoming Queens, not the same year. That one she won and I won.

Bern will always be remembered as a shining star of our 1953 graduating class.

My wish for the family is to always remember the good and loving times as you go through your healing process due to the loss of your loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.

Love to you all,
