I first met Don in Ohio Stadium doing research about my Stories of the 'Shoe book. That encounter led to lunch, and occasional phone conversations about our shared passions of Ohio State Football, and writing about our Buckeyes. Don was warm, welcoming and helpful to my project. I always enjoyed our chats. During one of those chats I shared that my mother had just had emergency surgery and it turns out Don had pioneered the technique used to save her life. May the memories of all the people Don helped in his life, carry and comfort his family and friends as they mourn Don's passing.

To Jan and the entire Steinberg family--my condolences and profound sympathy to all of you on the loss of such a hero among men. Don was a valued friend and mentor to me during my years in Toledo . He paved the way for me to get started in my ophthalmology practice at Riverside Hospital and was a true supporter and friend. He was a gifted surgeon and a physician in the tradition of Osler always putting the needs of his patients first. To have known him and have been his friend was a true honor and privilege. May he rest in peace.

Our condolences to the entire Steinberg family. I probably have known Don my whole childhood and adult life in Toledo and I have never met a more motivated person trying to spread the word of Judaism. He was truly a mensch and will missed by all who had contact with him. May G-d give the family strength during this time of sorrow. Brent and Ricki Rubin and family
