Sadly, I only met Mel about two years ago in our Florida community. His everyday physical struggles were apparent but until the very end he still managed to give you a big smile. The smile would break into a big grin when it came to Buckeye basketball trivia- Right about now he is probably putting together a heck of a team in the sky.
My heartfelt condolences to Jackie and the entire Nussbaum family.
My sympathies to Jackie and Lynn and sibs--Mel was a true professional and a fine human being. He will be missed.
So sorry about the loss of Mr. Nussbaum. May the God of all comfort give you the strength you need to get through this.
Dear Nusbaum family,

On behalf of my deceased father (Robert L. Dryfuse) as well our family, our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Mel was a good man who was a great help to our family in our times of need. Robert & Corrie Dryfuse
Mel and I met back at Devilbiss High School and graduated together the same year. He was an aggressive basketball player and loved the game. Mel was so personable. He had the ability to make a person feel special and important. Very understandable how he was an outstanding and extremely successful lawyer. The last time I saw Mel was at a pre-season "mixer" for the University of Toledo basketball team and interested alumni back in the early 2000's. Mel was ailing a bit yet, as always, his spirit was buoyant. He brought me to a big table and introduced me to several members of his family. You could tell Mel was so proud of everyone. When I remember Mel I will smile and he certainly put a lot of smiles on many faces. Liked his sense of humor. God bless, Mel, just a tremendous fellow and I was glad we were friends all these years.
I was Melvin's secretary for 8 years, he was the best boss I ever had, so kind and helpful to everyone of his clients. I will miss him and remember him always.
I was saddened to hear of Mel's passing! He was truly a great man with an even greater sense of humor!
I was privileged to not only know Mel, but to call him my friend. He was part of the "breakfast club" and we recall often his humor, intelligence and integrity. He was a fine man with a great family and his memory will be lasting. Jackie, Lynn, Mike and Jim, my sympathy is with you at this difficult time.
Sorry to hear of you loss Jimmy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss. Mel was one of the "great men" of the bar.

I am sitting here out of the country reading with sadness of the death of a man whom I have long esteemed because I have been blessed to know his children (esp Jim) and grand daughter Lauren; I know the positive influence he has had. This is certainly a case where we can be glad that the "apples don't fall far from the tree." I wish I could be there to share fond stories of his life, times, and legacy. Thinking of all of you, Carole (and Tom) Laasch
I am so sorry to hear this. Although not close in later years I have always had a real soft spot for Mel. I remember him when growing up and will always picture his great smile and warm personality. There are so few of the Toledo clan left. Rest easy Mel,
Jackie, Lynn, Mike, Jim I'm so sorry. He was the best boss I ever had. Kind, loving, and a very caring person. my prays are with you all.
I only knew Mel professionally, but I can say that every time our paths crossed in the DR arena, he was a gentleman to me. His knowledge of family law was exceeded by none. May God hold you in His hands Mel Nusbaum.
Jimmy, your words are spot-on. When I got to know Mel in 1977, I knew of his professional reputation, but was somewhat surprised at his unassuming and somewhat disheveled attitude and appearance. Only after getting to spend time with him, did I come to appreciate his talents, "style" and humility - a true role model for me while I made my way through law school.
Cousin Mel, thanks for the life lessons!
The word "Mensch" was invented for men like Mel. From the early 1950's I always felt better after saying hello to Mel. May he rest in peace.
Jackie and family,
We are so saddened to hear of Mel's passing. As I was growing up he was like a mentor to me with his wise thoughts mixed with humor. Mel always made himself available in time of need without any question. He will be missed by family and his many accumulated friends. Our heartfelt condolences at this very difficult time.
My condolences to the Nusbaum family.
One of the nicest men I ever met. Mel will be missed!
Our condolences to the Nusbaum family. Mel was an unforgetable character, always upbeat and positive. May G-d give you strength during this time of sorrow. Brent and Ricki Rubin and family
My most sincere sympathy to you, Jackie and your family. I have fond memories of Mel's suggestions regarding several of our class reunions. May the comfort of family carry you thru this time of transition. Perhaps we will share time at our next reunion in '14. Peace be with you.
A good friend for 50 plus years, since Army Reserve days; a raconteur with few peers, and an all 'round superb man.
