If your bore the Kachenmeister name, you were ALWAYS asked....are you related to Merle? Thanks to uncle merle, there was never a shortage of weather balloons around. RIP uncle Merle....

Merle was the reason I have always been interested in weather. From my first tour of the Weather Bureau, he made it sound so interesting! I bought my first Commodore 64 from Merle, and was amazed to see his basement at that time. That meeting kick-started my interest in ham radio and really got my interest in weather revived yet again. Many years later, I became deeply involved in Skywarn in NW Ohio, and Merle was there to help with the program he started.

A legend has passed, and he will be greatly missed. My condolences to all of his family.

I miss you so much grandpa.. but I know you are up there watching over all of us with that smirk on your face and an eye roll every time we do something wrong. I love you and I am so proud to be able to call you my grandfather <3

I haven't seen Great Uncle Merle since I was a child, but still have the fondest memories. My thoughts and prayers are with his whole family during this time.

Joanne and family:

Wow! Merle will be DEEPLY missed but how lucky we are to have been blessed by such a fun, loving and generous soul.

I can't tell you what a blessing the "A Team" volunteers were to the countless events hosted by the Toledo area American Diabetes Association. You name the event and Merle, Joanne and crew were there from sun up until the event was over giving 110%. Please know how much your kindness and generosity truly meant and please everyone else note Joanne and Merle were a couple who spent much of their golden years volunteering an average of 40 hrs a week helping others at what they did best, giving back through warmth, kindness and good old fashioned hard work. You needed something done, they got it done. What gems! There's another angel in Heaven without a doubt.

Peace and love to Joanne and family. And remember, we never lose the people we love even to death.

I am so sorry to hear of our loss of Merle. I lived next door to Joanne and Merle throughout my youth. Our families would go camping together, he was in some ways the father figure of our neighborhood. Merle gave me my first exposure into tv news by taking me to WTVG a few times while he worked the weekend weather shift. That led me to know that I was going to work in television. In later years I would intern at WTOL while Merle was working on weekends. Merle was the best at predicting the weather, he could just look at the sky and know. In this day of who's most accurate if you had Merle on tv there was no question he was always on the money. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Mr. Kachenmeister always provided comfort in his telling of the weather regardless of how bad it might be. What a wonderful example you have left as a meteorologist, husband, father and grandparent. May God continue to bless your family and sustain them with fond memories of Mr. Merle G. Kachenmeister.
