My most sincere condolences to the Smith family and all of her adopted family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
There are so many memories that I have shared with Nelda and the Smith family. She was always so kind to me and welcomed me like family, which is the way she was with everyone.

She was my surrogate grandma. She was feisty and also a prankster. As I recall, one summer while visiting my Uncle Bob and Aunt Linda, we ended the afternoon over at Bob and Nelda's. This was a daily occurrence. They guys came in from the fields and got cleaned up. We had cocktail hour and Nelda made dinner. it was precious time that bonded the family. I was probably 12 years old at the time.
As I sat down at the family table, everyone was snickering here and there. Nelda had asked me earlier if I had ever had "mountain oysters". Being that I was a suburban girl, I did not know "what" they were let alone had I ever tried them. She placed some on my plate giggling as she did. All eyes were on me, so I took a couple of bites. I was not a fan.... she cried out what they were made from, laughing and carrying on.

There are so many stories... she was a wonderful friend to my mom, grandmother to me and my children when we visited. She challenged me to a Loma Linda's challenge when I was 22. We all knew who won! I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening in bed! HaHa! She came home and started dinner!
Here is to you, Nelda. The passing of a true matriarch and beautiful soul! I will cherish the memories that we shared! Thank you foir sharing yourself with me and mine. You will be missed!
Love always, Diana
