Tommy was a great personal childhood friend, despite all the odds against it. We went through grades 3,4 & 5 together at Nassau St. Public School at a time when my parents used to say to me "You stay out of the coloured section". Tommy would have none of it and he set me straight. In no uncertain terms he made sure that I learned every bit that I could about his family, culture and certainly where he lived. I was never more welcomed anywhere, before or since. He knocked every bit of prejudice that I may have been steering towards right out of me at a crucial time, before it had a chance to take hold. I moved away after grade 5 and regrettably never saw Tommy again. By all accounts though, he lead a terrific life and I'm sure he inspired many, many others too. RIP Tommy. I think I owe you a Jaw Breaker from Mr. Ball's store. I'll bring one with me! David Bull
