I was saddened to know that my friend Helen had passed away a few years back. I have been looking for her and Ralph since I came to the US from Sudan in 2000.
I met Helen in Khartoum Sudan in the early nineties when Ralph was the US consul at the embassy in Khartoum. We became friends and enjoyed so many activities around the city together. She loved going to the local market and collecting the Brass and copper trays and she would come home and clean them up and make them shiny.
We enjoyed doing our nails and she always kept extra long and beautiful nails.
I was impressed by her love for life and African culture. She told me many things about the US and the black people history and corrected many wrong perceptions for me. I have many memories with her and I did not stop looking for her since I came to the US and my heart is now broken to know that she passed away and I will never see her again. May her beautiful soul rest in peace and shine above us to eternity.
Francine, I would love to get to know you and get in touch.

Helen was a sweetheart. As I recall, she used that word a lot about people. Despite many bad things that happens to people and the death of loved ones; she never said a cross word or bad things about anyone. I really enjoyed my visits with her and Ralph. I felt that I knew Francine through her... saying nice things about her daughter who supported her so wonderfully until the end.

Aunt Helen, may you rest in peace. I will cherish the memory of our visits with you and the stories of our childhood and the Nitkiewicz family. Love you forever.
