I have fond memories of John on a trip to Meadow Run for a fly fishing trip which is a favorite spot for many of us fly fishers. My sympathy to the entire Hayes family. John was always so generous in sharing his knowledge of the sport with so many of us. He will surly be missed but he will never be forgotten.

As the father of one of my dearest friends, I enjoyed his company at the annual Halloween parties and get togethers. John always reminded me of my own grandfather, honorable with his service to our country, down to earth with his love of fishing, and charming with his narratives. He always remembered me as the young girl who sang "stump!" with the chorus of people gathered to record his son John Hayes' album. Later I would bring my misbehaving kids around so I would become the girl with all the kids.

Will miss you around the singing circle. Your memory lives on. My thoughts and love are with your family.

Mr. Hayes, Thank you for your service to your country. From what I read, you always put the needs of others before yourself. You raised a great son, John, whose friendship I value. You were part of the Greatest Generation.

Respectfully,

I was only introduced to John about 3 or 4 years ago on two PG University Trips to Lake Erie for Steelhead fishing in 11/2014 and Ohiopyle in April/May 2015.

He was a great, very generous and patient gentlemen with his help in my fly fishing for trout. As a beginner fly fisher, I am always looking to find someone who can help me understand how and where to fish.

John Hayes was the "perfect" gentlemen to have teaching you. He was patient and answered all of my questions.

He will be sorely missed by the entire Western PA fly fishing community and clubs. My prayers go out to his family at this time.
