I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Mr. Pass after reading a 2004 article about one of his former students. We mostly talked by phone as well as by "snail mail" and he enjoyed talking about his World War II service as well as his Penn State days.

James, I humbly send my condolences to you and I will always remember your father's kindness to me.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Pass. He was a wonderful man and still, after many years, he remains a personal inspiration to me. I am now also a teacher, and hardly a day goes by that I don't fondly recall his gentle yet direct manner of instruction, a lesson from one of his classes, or a motivational note written on a less-than-perfect homework assignment. Or a visit to the farm to maintain the snow fences and sample the wine.

My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Hell's Bells! He was my kind of man. Told it like it was with no grey areas.
We lost a great patriot & life teacher.
