She was a great friend to the West family. She will be missed. I hope the best for Kurt and Kris in their time of grief.

I first met Pauline and Rich in 1994 when we bought the old, run down house across the road from them. Rich told me, You have no idea what you've got yourself in to, now do you? He was right, but over the years we got to know Rich and Polly as the very best neighbors we could ever have asked for. If they saw me struggling with some aspect of home repair, Rich would invariably drop what he was doing and come over to show me how to do it right. I have no doubt that Polly was often the instigator, and in this, they looked out for us like another set of parents. Over the years, they taught me to hang a door, fix my tractor, mount a tire and care for our badly designed septic. They helped us out when the power went out, and they always made sure our driveway was plowed free of snow, particularly appreciated in the late 1990's as we had several storms dropping feet of snow. They looked out for us while we were overseas in 2000-02, giving me frank assessment of the condition of our home. I smile to recall one instance when Polly hollared at one of our tenant's young children who was misbehaving. She was still looking out for us (and them), even if we were thousands of miles away.

I was always impressed at how the two of them seemed to be able to accomplish just about anything. They seemed unflappable and were strong pillars of our neighborhood. They inspired me, and they gave me confidence in myself.

I have no doubt she's tugging on St Peter's robe, insisting that he cut us all a break, still looking out for us and enjoying her reunion with Rich. We'll miss her strength and the unity she brought to our neighborhood, but her legacy will live on in the life lessons my children observed, and in the friendships we made.

Dear Kurt and Kris, You have our condolences. I knew "Polly" from Mary Kay. I used to be a consultant, also, and would depend on your mom when I needed a product in a hurry for a customer. I would either pick it up at your home or at the print shop. That's how my husband met your father. We moved to Gibsonia 11 years ago and unfortunately haven't kept in touch, but I thought of Polly often. Your parents were both special people, and were so proud of you both. We hope all the special and warm memories will help console you at this difficult time. ~ Bob and Lori Faletti
