Sylvia Jane Montali, 81, of Vandergrift, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at QLS-West Haven Manor, Washington Township. Born Jan. 30, 1937, in New Kensington, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Gertrude (DePalma) Amaranto. Sylvia was a 1954 graduate of Vandergrift High School, and completed courses at Robert Morris Secretarial School. She started her career as a secretary at Koppers in Pittsburgh, and went on to work at U.S. Steel in Vandergrift, where she met her husband, Andy. They were married April 12, 1958, and had three children over the next five years. Sylvia finished her career as a supervisor at the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, going on family vacations and organizing lunches, dinners, and breakfasts with friends. Sylvia not only took care of her immediate family, but took on the responsibility of caring for several aunts and uncles in their later years. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her." Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Andrew Montali; and her children, David (Cathy) Montali and family, of Charleston, W.Va., Michael (Kelli) Montali and family, of Pelham, Ala., and Andrea Montali, of Germantown, Md.
