FRED PULICICCHIO Obituary

Fred Pulicicchio "Mr. Paul" Born on August 12, 1933 passed away on January 27, 2014 after a ten month battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. He was raised in International Falls, Minnesota by Pasquale and Margaret Pulicicchio who immigrated from Italy. Fred attended the University of Minnesota on football and hockey scholarships. He played football for two years and was a goal tender for the hockey team and an active member of ROTC. Fred and his team members were awarded Silver medals for participation in the N.C.A.A. Hockey Championship Game of 1954. He married Elna in 1955. He worked full time at night at a steel mill and part time at a bank to support his family. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree. At first he taught high school and coached hockey in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1962, he moved to Tacoma, Washington with his wife Elna and five children. He taught Math at Fife High School, coached football, and taught Driver's Education. He was also a negotiator for the Teacher's Education Association. He belonged to: Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, and Coach of the Fast Pitch Girl's Baseball Team called the "Asarco Road Runners". His interests included all sports, wood-working, 10K running, bocce ball tournaments, hunting, playing cards, traveling, and puzzles; but his family's activities always came first. He is survived by his wife Elna of 58 years, eight children and their spouses: Jon, Jerry (Kim), Jody, Joseph (Carol), Janine (Danny), Justina (John), Janetta (Josh), and Jason (Jodi), twenty-two grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Vincent and Lillian. A Rosary Service will be held at Whiteside Mortuary Chapel on February 6th at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 7th at 12 noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, both located in Elma, Washington. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held in Tacoma at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on February 13th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Fred's name to your favorite charity. Mr Pulicicchio was a most caring and helpful teacher. He believed in me when no one else did, he was always eager to help you up when you were down on yourself, and listen to you when things seemed overwhelming. He loved his family and was always proud of his children, often times sharing stories about them in class. He had an infectious laugh, a kind spirit and a good heart. He drove hours and hours with many a student around the Fife valley, sometimes applying the brakes when we thought it wasn't necessary, but he knew it was. I have often thought about him as I have gotten older, and many times wondered if he really knew the impact he had made on so many lives. As teenagers we all thought we were invincible and he always grounded us to the realities of life. I wish I had told him these things many years ago instead of writing them now - life is a series of 'hellos' and 'good byes', and too often we don't get a second chance at the good byes. Blessings and Prayers to all the Pulicicchio Family, please know I have always thought of your Father, Husband, Grandfather as a true jewel from my past.

So sorry for your loss.Just the other day someone ask me who my teachers where? The only two I could was MR PAUL, AL EKREERT. That the only one,s that made good memories . I liked both because they each were awsome , and learned alot from both. MR PAUL was kind and paticant I sucked at math and if not for him would have failed math. DAVE LAEMMLE (VANCOUVER WA)

I was one of your Math and Drivers Ed. students back in 1971 at Fife High School. I have always thought of you over the years, never forgetting your name, because back then, at 16, I was going through a really tough time ( my mother was in her last stages of cancer, and I was about to be on my own because of that fact) and you would always lend a listening ear when no one else would. Thank you. I would like to send my prayers to your family if that is alright, so that the Lord will comfort them in their time of great loss. Thank you.
