George was a dear friend , a brilliant person, a caring doctor who had a magnificent sense of humor. Which transcended all the worlds woes. An accomplished sailor, a thoughtful and caring parent, loving husband and dedicated person to those he knew, he always helped those in need , a true believer in healing and counsel in several, languages if needed. My doctor, my friend, my family.

I am shocked and saddened by George's untimely death which I learned from the Harvard Magazine. We were friends from childhood when he was and remained the most brilliant person I've ever known. The Randall and Merriam families through our parents' generations were close and connected through love and medicine. Sending healing thoughts to all his family. Debby Randall

My sincere and deepest sympathies to Dr. Merriam's family. George was a brilliant scientist and outstanding clinician in endocrinology and his contributions to the field will always be remembered.

Dr. Merriam was one of the finest doctors I ever had the privilege of knowing. He was my doctor at the University of Washington at the time of his passing, and I will very much miss him.
