I became a patient of Dr. Florence's at the young age of 18 months old (1958). He discovered the reason why I would cry when I would stand up, that I had what was called a congential hip. For the next approximately 13 years I saw Dr. Florence every year for my check up. He would tell me in a very stern but loving way that I was not to RUN,JUMP or CLIMB. Dr. Florence had his way of telling me that if I listened to him I would benefit from it. Well, due to his voice repeating in my head NO RUNNING,JUMPING or CLIMBING.. which lead to a very boring childhood. But he saved me from hip surgery until I was 31 years old. I have always given Dr. Florence high praise for the loving way he talked to me as a child and a young adult. Dr. Florence has and always will hold a special place in my heart.

I broke my arm roller skating with the Brownies when I was in second grade...two days before school was out for the summer. Dr. Florence set my arm after an anesthesiologist did a local block at the hospital. He bet me it would not hurt and when he was done, I said it did but, of course, it did not. He knew I was putting him on. I think he paid me a quarter to settle the bet. I spent seven summer weeks (not six because he went on vacation)in that cast and did I ever make it work including swimming with the arm held out of the water. I was an active child. What a wonderful human being he was. A life well lived.
