Helen Margaret Buhr Helen Margaret Buhr, loving wife, mother and grand/great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday morning January 29, 2014 in Tacoma, WA at the age of 92. Helen was married for 69 years to Mr. Gerhart "Jeff" Buhr, a lifelong Tacoma resident. Helen Buhr was born in Pittsburg, CA, near San Francisco, on May 28th, 1921 to Frank and Jeannette Wilson, and graduated from high school there in 1939. She was the youngest of 6 children, four brothers, George, Frank, Edward and Tom, and one sister, Cecelia. During WWII, while in nurse's training in San Francisco, Helen served in the Navy Nursing Corps, where she met Jeff Buhr and married soon after on October 31, 1944. Helen is survived by her husband, Jeff Buhr, her children Tony Buhr (Linda) of Tacoma, David Buhr of Maple Valley, Jeffrey Buhr (Rita) of Lynden, Daniel Buhr (Debbie) of Tacoma, and Jeannette "Nettie" Buhr-Wagner (John) of Ocean Shores. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Helen was a wonderful, generous, dedicated, devoted, caring, nurturing, and hard-working wife and mother, not only with her own family, but shared this unbounded love with everyone, and welcomed all into her home. Two especially close family friends were Cesar and Sandy, but many more were blessed by her loving ways. She was an inspiration, and loved by all. Even with a large family Helen held a professional life as well, working for many years in Tacoma as a nursing aide, nursing assistant, and LPN in several area hospitals, and retired from Tacoma General in 1988. She enjoyed singing in the Tacoma Women's choir "Sweet Adelines." She also enjoyed reading and studying, always eager to learn new things such as languages, computers, and health and nutrition. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 5510 N. 44th Street, Tacoma, WA. Rosary will be recited prior to Mass at 10:30am. Buhr Family, please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your Helen. On the occasion I would visit your house with Jeff “Bugs” she was always very warm and welcoming making one feel right at home. Know that your circle of friends thinking of you and wishing you strength in your hour of sorrow is wider then you may imagine because she was so wonderful to all.

What a lovely and beautiful tribute to an amazing woman. I am a good friend to her daughter Nettie, and last night actually had to ask Nettie what her mother's real name was as I have only ever know her as "Mom". I think that speaks volumes about the kind of woman she was and how she will always be remembered. Love and prayers to all as we say goodbye to this amazing woman.. rest in peace Mom.
