Hilda (Dahlstrom) Pursley Hilda (Dahlstrom) Pursley went home to the Lord Sunday, March 23, 2014. She died peacefully of natural causes at age 94 after having enjoyed loving visits from each of her out-of-town children. Hilda was born in Samuels, ID, Sunday, July 27, 1919. She was the sixth of nine children born to Charles John, who died when she was 9, and Ina Elizabeth Dahlstrom. She spent her childhood in a log home near Grouse Creek outside of Sandpoint and attended grade school in a country school built partially by her father. She lived with a family in Sandpoint while attending high school. A good student, she attended business school in Spokane, where she learned office skills that she applied to later employment, often in the public sector. A passion was her advocacy for more and better activity centers for senior citizens, including working in the early planning of the new Puyallup Senior Center. She was fiercely independent and could accomplish almost anything to which she set her mind. A loving and caring Mother, she gave guidance and created high expectations for her 5 children, a lifelong endeavor since their ages spanned 20 years from youngest to oldest. For the past 50 years, to be near one or more of her children, she lived in Chicago, Boise, Bellevue, Anchorage, Astoria, and Puyallup for the last 25 years. Her constant and primary passion was her love of Jesus Christ, her church and her fellow worshippers. She was actively involved wherever she lived in the local Methodist Church, particularly in adult education and layperson ministries. She touched the lives of many, many people. The depth of her love for her church was most revealed when she visited the home and small chapel in London of John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist church, where she burst into profuse tears of happiness. During her lifetime she also visited her roots in Finland and walked in the Holy Land. She was an avid reader and scholar, resorting to audio books when her eyes began to fail her. She always revealed great pleasure presented with a new good read, a new life adventure, 2 scoops of ice cream (virtually any flavor), or a box of chocolates, which her strong sense of discipline caused her to ration at one chocolate per day. She is survived by a sister, Virginia Hansen, Libby; 5 children, Ken (Elizabeth), Boise; Janet Tower, Las Vegas; Ted (Toni), Puyallup; John (Sandi), Anchorage; and Karla (Adrian) Rosenberg, Hilo, HI; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the many people who cared for our mother in her times of need. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Hilda to the United Methodist Church of Puyallup, 1919 W Pioneer Ave., Puyallup 98371. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, April 27 at 4 P.M. at the United Methodist Church of Puyallup, reception to follow. Please leave online condolences at www.powersfuneralhome.com
